Point taken. Only thing is, I can't find my Two Towers DvD which is really annoying. Oh my goodness. My foot is bleeding now. Just so you all know. It's from a peice of Lego my brother left on the floor. And I split tea on the remote so I have to get up to push buttons. Not in a good mod. Thank Goodness for this thread

Yup, Religious Education. It's not as bad as it sounds... we don't get preached to (well yeah, we do, but only this year because our teacher's a freaking bleep). Usually we talk about ethical issues and we learn about other religions that catholicism (I'm not catholic, but my school is). We've just finished a unit on the Stolen Generations in Australia. Now that's something I hate! Stupid past government policies. If you don't know what I'm talking about: from about 1850 to 1970 In Australia, thousands of aboriginal and half-caste children (up to 1 in every 3) children were taken from their mothers to be educated in missions. Whites believed the mothers would soon forget their kids. The darker children were left in the institutions and taught to be domestic servants and farm hands, while paler kids were adopted into families. Lots of the kids were abused in every possible way and traumatised. Many didn't ever have contact with their families again.
And our PM (I want to use strong language, but I'll reserve myself) REFUSES TO SAY SORRY!!!! Not even in acknowledgement. Oh, John Howard, your name belongs in this thread!
Right now, I also despise my rehearsal schedule. 13 days straight of school. TORTURE!!!

I have to agree and disagree. Religions aren't exactly bad, just when people don't allow you to voice your opinion, even when it's good and makes sense. Some Christians have that problem, and it really bothers me, because they're using their christianity to slam things in other's faces. That isn't exactly the best way to go about things.
But you saying that religions aren't good for anything is as predjudiced as me saying that you would be going to hell because you aren't a Christian. Did you know that student crime in the US has gone up since they banned prayer in schools? Suicide rates are also higher. And yet, the government doesn't put any of this information out where it's easy to find, and people keep on dying.
If I sound a little harsh, then I'm sorry, and I don't want to slam anything in your face, either. It's just hard to see your beliefs dashed, if you know what I mean. Not that you were dashing my beliefs, oh, never mind. I'm confusing myself.

If people need something to believe in, they can share my beliefs. I believe in facts. Unlike religion, facts doesen't need someone to believe in them to exist.
I think you have a point here. Religion can be used by some people to get control over other people. And that is bad. Very bad. A lot of wars have started that way. But I don't know many wars started over facts.

Iraq was started over the fact that Sadaam Hussein was evil. And that was most certainly a fact. Any man that could do the things that he did needs to be stopped.

Well, from what I saw on the news, they didn't find a lot of weapons in Iraq, so what was it that Saddam could do?

Oh, you know, beheading people in public, massacring entire kurdish villages, torturing people for reading certain books etc. etc. Nothing serious of course. I in no way agree with the war on Iraq- statistics and blogs ahve shown that most people preferred Saddam's reign to the current situation- who wouldn't? I think it was just an excuse, an answer to George Bush's popularity problems and a good way to set up a puppet nation for trade. North Korea and Burma have wmd's, North Korea and Burma both are governed by fascist regimes, but the US, knowing they actually have weapons, are treading carefully. If Iraq had had weapons, and if George Senior didn't want Saddam so bad, the war probably never would have happened.
And yes, this is on topic- I hate the war and the situation involved around it. I also hate Alexander Downer. He promised China we'd assist and invasion of Taiwan (we're Australia) and then discovered that we actually promised the US we'd assist Taiwan! that's the biggest political blunder I've heard of since JFK told the people of Berlin he was a donut!!!!

I have pancake syrup of doomish poison. you eat it and die.
On the topic of war i don't believe it's nessisary. There is only one case in recent history where a war was the only way to stop the massacure of innocent and that is ww2. I think that the wars today are pointless, especially the one in Iraq. i wish they'd just lay off the bombing and killing. I think religon has alot to do with it all. All through history religon has caused alot of trouble. Why can't people just accept what other people believe? Why is it such a big deal?

Pancakes are only EVIL if the pan was not greased!
It is not "religion" that has caused the problems Vanacoriel, it is the the people that don't accept religion that cause the problems.

All right, I have one question. Why can't other people accept our beliefs? Why, when we question the beliefs of other people, do you immediately jump up and yell, "The Christians are predjudiced! We must have toleration!!!" Why can't you people tolerate our beliefs as well?
Why is it such a big deal. Hm. The Koran says that it's okay (in fact, it's suggested), to kill anybody who's not Muslim. And that they'll go to heaven for it. I ask you, is that right? Should we tolerate that?
*puts mod face on* Now that I've had my rant, I'd like to stop this before it gets out of hand. I really don't like arguing (don't glare at me, I don't), and I really don't like arguing between friends. And I consider you people my friends. So, I don't apologize for what I said, and I hope that you will take it to heart, but I'd like this to end before we all hate each other. Please?

I think you have a point here. Religion can be used by some people to get control over other people. And that is bad. Very bad. A lot of wars have started that way. But I don't know many wars started over facts. *steps in as Admin* Okay, that's enough on the religious talk. This thread is on things you dislike, not bash anyone's religion (hates that word). I speak for a great deal of people on this board that are Christians, myself included. I have to stop this before it gets out of hand. If you don't believe in Christ, then fine. If you believe in nothing if it isn't proved right in front of you, fine. Just LEAVE EVERYONE ELSE'S BELIEFS ALONE!!!! That's for EVERYONE! None of us Christians are going to preach at you, or start any wars on this board, but, if there is going to be flaming about it, I have to interject as the Admin. I hate using my power like so, but, if there is flaming, and this continues, the violators WILL BE BANNED. Or something else of the like. Christianity did not cause any wars, it was people who refused to accept that we had our own beliefs. If you are going to say that we are prejidused, look at it from OUR point of view some time. I have never dised any other person because they believe in nothing, or in Budah, or live by the Koran. I pray for them, yes, but I do not dis them. It is other people who dis us for having our own beliefs. And, regarding facts, I rather dislike them, because, you see, any fact can be disproven. At least when I'm around-- heh. Just wondering, Thorongil, but HOW do you believe the world was created if you believe in nothing but facts? I would hate RE too, because I have my beliefs, and no one is changing them. I'm making my admin stand here, and saying ENOUGH OF THE RELIGIOUS ARGUMENTS! Discussing the war is fine, how it was started is fine. But when it gets to the point of flaming other peoples beliefs, that's too far. ENOUGH! I must agree though, why can't people accept that other people have different beliefs? Why do they have to start wars on it? *don't bother answering that* Sigh... I have spoken! *theme music cues up* We were discussing things we disliked... I dislike people who flame things for no reason, and leave no hope for improval. Such as on fanfiction.net.

Ever heard of a little thing called The Big Bang?

Post by Dûncariel is Dead. on Aug 31, 2004 11:40:29 GMT -5
First of all, that's an oxy moron. "A little thing called the Big Bang." Heh, think about it.
Secondly, I took a course on Evolution, and it just mixed itself all up and proved my beliefs more than it proved itself. If something 'blows up', as what is supposed to have happened in the Big Bang (which they do call a theory, by the way), it doesn't bring everything together, they get, well, blown up. A whole lot of Evolutionists have discredited this theory themselves, and basically said that they have no proof for it, and that it could not have worked.
Then, you would have to have a huge rock or something for all of these particules to gather themselves around, because tiny little particles don't have enough gravity to attract other tiny little particles. And there couldn't have been enough static electricity to bring them together, either.
Then, where are all of the missing links? Why don't we see any half monkey people running around? Hm?
It takes just as much faith to believe in evolution, where there is proof, as it takes to believe in Creation. So, evolution is a religion in itself, and I'm done talking about it. *smacks head* I shouldn't have even answered that question.
Sushi. Mmmmm..... *likes raw fish* Then again, I really like cooked fish, too.... *is torn*

I'm with what Eowyn Skywalker posted a couple of posts back. This isn't right, and if it does continue, there is a possibility that the board will be shut down. I don't know if Eowyn already said that, but if she approves it I will do it. SO STOP!!!
I will be watching you...
