Ahem. Double posting, I know. But I thought I might as well pop in the results of my experimentation with Tiana's method of transparent text on Arcsoft.

The font's called Erasmus, after the ancient philosopher-type dude, I take it...I downloaded it somewhere, and I've become really attached to it. Heh.

Wellllllll...using Arcsoft, I'd be able to describe. Another program, I'm not so sure... Photoshop works nicely if you just select text and press "delete". Lessee...you'd have the two different layers, one with the solid text, and one with the same text, but blurred/smudgied/whatever. You take the solid text layer on top, and go to the layers toolbox. Hold in Ctrl and click the solid text's layer icon thingamajig. It'll select the text for you. Then, without doing anything to the selection, go to the blurry text layer. It'll automatically transfer the text selection, and all you have to do then is press "delete", and voila! Worked well for me, anyhow.

*blinks* That's just as confusing as Arcsoft's... worse.
Email me the font, yes? [/mindtrick]
Anyway, for Arcsoft... as I'm the most qualified to explain. *winks*
You'll want to make your text whatever color you want your glow to be. You need a program with layers to pull this off...
Observe your layer with text. *flurish* See, there's a layer. What I do is the following...
Taking your text layer, copy and paste it so that you have three layers of text. Lock the top layer, and then go down to your background layer. Copy that. Go back up to your top layer, and into the toolbar, where there's this cute little paintbucket with linyies. It's a texture fill. Select that, then stick on the checkbox for "fill from clipboard". Fill in your text layer. Go to the other text layers, make sure they're not locked. Take the first and gaussian blur it by 8, then the other one by 24.
Or so.
That's basically what I do.
Now, however, if you don't have the texture fill option, just make the blurs without worrying about the top layer, then select only the text in it, and go and delete it from the two blur layers, and that should work too.
There.
[/lesson by Tiana]
That's basically what Jandalf said anyway.

Bleah... most of us don't have photoshop anyway... *wishes* Lessee... you never check YC anyway... a wallpaper! I like it without the text better, I think...

Yeah, I know what it is, but who has hotlinked? Wouldn't the pictures just show up as the deadly red X? See, now here I go again confusing myself...and just when I thought I had everything under control. hehehe...

They don't show up as red X's unless the image isn't available. When you hotlink off a place like anglefire, the image you wanted is replaced by their server by the please don't steal our bandwith picture. They have reasons, but it still annoys me.

You could right click the image and save it then re-upload it which is what I do

I would upload it, but uploading is such a pain. I have a ton of different file upload sites, but not all of them work for the message forums, or certain ones work for certain forums. They are moody, I guess you could say. I changed my desktop now anyways. It's now a picture that I took on my trail ride through the gettysburg battlefields.
