Vornskr, he thought. Those don't sound wonderful. At least the ysalamiri themselves are herbivores. But there's more than one sort of predator in this forest, that I know of.
"Relax," he said for the second time that evening. Or was it the third? This whole planet seemed to put him in a haze. "Ethics are generally not conditional. I happen to focus on them more than practicality, at any rate."
She's uneasy about something. I can tell by her voice. Is she hiding something deliberately, or is she waving it in front of my face to see if I recognise it? Fervently, he wished for daylight. But it was still hours away.

Shadow had never been this uneasy in her life. Here she was, toying with a Jedi Master to see if he would remember her, and yet trying to remain calm?!
Sheesh... those Jedi training things must rub off on a person. She closed her eyes, and took a breath. Without the Force any calming tecnieques were pointless to say the least.
Inwardly, she continued wishing it was daylight-- that they didn't still have a night to go of this painful dark, with the ever-growing threat that something was watching them.
"Oh, I'm relaxed," she muttered. "I'm only attempting to talk to a Jedi Master while I happen to be Sith..." Agh. You're doing really good, Lania. He can probably tell your uncomfortable, to say the least.

Sith. She's Sith. She said it before, and you weren't paying attention, the accusing voice said within his mind.
Sith?! He managed to keep himself from stumbling backwards. How hazed over have I been, anyway?
He knew he had to relax, himself. It was all right...he was doing fine...
"I suggest we start taking watch and getting some sleep while it's dark. It would be a good idea to use what daylight we'll have to travel."

Almost a faint smile touched Shadow's face. He reacted. To what? "I think you need to relax as much as I do," she commented wryly. "If you can sleep in the trees, I'll take first watch."
I've said I was Sith more than once. He needs to pay more attention. He's tired.
Shouldn't you keep that advantage? Shouldn't you be trying to keep him from finding you out? She deeply wished that it was daylight-- that her ship was right there-- that she didn't have to bargin with a Jedi Master who could know her...
"Yeah. What daylight we'll have," she muttered.

He slumped down to sit at the base of a tree, weariness suddenly overcoming him. For the moment, it didn't really matter that there was a Sith standing right there, easily able to skewer him alive whenever she wanted to. Besides, Sith had highly volatile personalities, or so he'd heard, and he wouldn't ever really like to get to know one of them.
...But wait. He supposed maybe he DID sort of know one of them now since he'd...since...
His head lolled forward and he collapsed to his side in a sudden dreamless slumber.
((You can do one post encompassing your watch, and then wake him up after you've denoted time's passed. That way we won't have to drag it out too much, eh?))

//yah... eh. heh. I'll go through her watch quickly then.//
Shadow almost faintly smiled at the Jedi Master's quick slip into sleep-- she knew she'd probably be edgy, but he surprised her by falling asleep so fast. Again, the calm of a Jedi overrides the power you study now...
She shoved that aside, and pulled her cloak around her closer, pacing around the area she had decided was their camp. Without the Force, it bothered her to be out there in that complete darkness...
Who knew what was out there anyway? What creatures of the darkness that she had not yet heard of...
Shadow was all too aware of her hand over the cold metal of her lightsaber. All too aware of the nervousness that was over her. What if he isn't asleep... what if he's just going to skewer me when I'm not looking... what if...
Curse these what ifs!
She didn't have the time, just had to guess how long had passed. And it went all too slowly, and yet too quickly. All sorts of weird sounds coming from the forest around her... all sorts of...
A twig snapped.
The Sith whirled around in a storm of black robes-- which luckily did not get her caught on another tree-- and into the nearby brush, lightsaber suddenly in hand.
It snapped again.
She turned around, bringing her lightsaber up to bearing...
To find herself face to face with a fearful spotted lizard.
Shadow snorted. Emotions taking place over yourself-- keep your mind open.
Darn it, how do I keep an open mind when there's nothing to be open to!?
The night passed without insident. Well, her half of the night. Keeping a mental watch going to the time, she finally decided that the Jedi has had enough sleep, and knelt beside him-- he was still out of it.
She shook him slightly-- just enough to rouse a normal person. "Hey-- 'tis your watch, Master Elachi," she said in a low tone.
//Good? I didn't want to have to have a fight, and Elachi sleep through it, eh? OY! NO MORE EHS! She got to face down the fearful lizard... which would be quite a feat, were she Jethine.//

((*grins* Good egg, eh? Anyhow, here we go.))
Elachi's mind plunged through the haze quickly and he pushed himself off the ground, brushing a twig that was stuck to the side of his face. Alertness flooded through him and he readied himself for sudden movement...only to remember where he was, as well as what sort of company he was keeping.
What was her name again? He tried to remember. Oh...yes. She never truly gave me one.
Lenth. It starts with lenth. He grimaced, rising from the forest floor. I can puzzle it out while I keep watch.

//egg...i had to think about that one. eh. and it's LATHANIA. not Lenth. sigh. the tired mind works wonders.//
Shadow smiled distantly, drawing her cloak tightly around her and leaning against the base of the tree. She didn't think she'd be able to sleep-- not now, not here, not with the company she was keeping...
She was thus remotely startled to fall asleep rapidly, falling into a dreamless slumber.
Along with the simple realization. I'm trusting a Jedi?!
That jerked her awake for a moment. Trusting a Jedi not to skewer me... a Sith... Shadow sighed, and tugged her cloak tighter around her. Well, I'm trusting him anyway.
And fell back into dreamless sleep.

((I know it's Lathania. But the letter L in Aurebesh is called "lenth". And "good egg" is something I picked up from a British book.))
"Lenth," he mused to himself, his mind still in a fog despite the clarity of his surroudings. "Lenth...aurek? La...la..."
He suddenly paused and chortled to himself. I sound like an idiot. No matter. She's asleep...I think. But she already thinks Jedi are fools, I can tell. So what difference would it make if I started rocking on the ground and burbling nonsense?
Now there was a frightening thought. Hopefully my stay on this planet won't come to that.
Hours passed with him alternately pacing, standing against tree trunks, and sitting in a meditation pose without really meditating.
That was his position, at any rate, when some local shrubbery rustled. It was faint, hardly there...but enough for him to notice. Unmoving, his eyes flicked around the area, and he steeled himself for a sudden move.
A lithe creature leaped from the foliage straight for him, pupils suddenly shrinking as the glow of his lightsaber came up. He rose in an instantaneous motion, and somehow it followed through that the tip of the blue blade merged into the predator's forehead. The creature was dead before it crashed into the Jedi, knocking him backwards into a tree.

//How was I suppose to know that?!//
Trained instincts to react to anything kicked in, as her subconscious caught the noice. Shadow jumped up, both feet hitting the ground at the exact same time that she had her lightsaber in hand. Even without the Force, her reactions were still trained.
She sighed as she slowly registered what had happened, taking in the scene quickly-- the Jedi Master crashed against a nearby tree, dead predator having knocked him into it, she presumed.
Shadow clipped her lightsaber back to her belt, and brushed her hood back. It was still dark enough that he couldn't see her face, any right. And offered a hand to the Jedi. "I can take the watch back, if you'd like," she offered, though her voice was less than awake.

((You weren't. I was supposed to have remembered to tell you. Heh.))
"No," he said, adrenaline coursing through every vein of his body. "I'm quite awake. Though due to the lightening of the sky, it's quite possible morning's well on its way." He struggled up, pushing the dead predator off to sprawl on the ground. "What," he said, wincing at the painful scratch the tip of its tail had made on his left shin, "was that?"

Shadow shrugged, and leaned against the nearest tree, still too tired to think straight. "Probably a vornskr, as they seem to be popular in these parts," she said, yawning. "But it's really too dark for me to tell." The "sith" pushed her hood all the way back to take a closer look at the sky, which was faintly tinted by pinks and purples where the sun would rise in the morning.
"A couple more hours," she murmured thoughtlessly, and slumped back against the tree. "Then you can try wake up, Lania." Shadow tugged her cloak around her, the chill of the very early morning quite penitrating. She wasn't even really thinking about what she was saying, or anything-- being half awake and faced with the possibilities of predetors attacking without the Force as a guide wasn't exactly a fair feeling.

He was at the other end of the clearing, but the sound of her voice as she muttered to herself carried over well enough.
Lania?
There was a small explosion of memory. Lania. Sister to Taania, he believed... There had been that rare occasion where Lania had borrowed her sister's lightsaber and it had exploded, or so he'd heard. Althea. Was Althea her Master?
The small cut the vornskr had administered was stinging persistently. Elachi tried to ignore the needle-like pains, keeping his remaining five senses alert, but occasionally diverting his attention to the growing rose colour over the treetops.
Looks like it'll be a nice day.
He wandered about the clearing some more, hoping that keeping in some motion would help clear up this gadfly distraction buzzing around in his head. So difficult to focus on anything. Perhaps it's just a symptom of this Force-absence. Or perhaps because of Lania. Whoever she is now.

Shadow slept through the whole sunrise though, the sleep claiming her quickly-- she didn't notice the rose colored tints covering the sky overtop the trees, or the shadows quickly being chased away by the sunlight that returned over the new day.
Hood still hanging crookedly over the back of her head, she was still sleeping peacefully when the sun finally finished rising completely-- the younger girl completely unaware of the thoughts running through the Jedi Master's mind.
Completely unaware that her cover was blown now completely, that her face was shown, and the memory returned.
//you'll have to wake her up. she sleeps very heavily.//

((Okay, well...I'm going to go ahead and godmod you in your sleep. That shouldn't be too difficult, methinks, and it won't drastically alter the plotline...heh.))
It was dawn. Somewhat past that point, in fact.
Time to get moving.
He crouched down beside the sleeping...enemy? partner-in-figurative-crime? He wasn't sure anymore.
That lack of decision could prove to be dangerous.
But there was one thing he knew for certain. The face that had been slowly uncovered from the blanket of night was definitely recognisable, and he held absolutely no doubts now as to this girl's identity.
"Lania." He tapped her shoulder lightly. "Wake up."
No response.
A little louder this time: "Lania."
She slept on, with only a little stirring.
At least she isn't snoring. "Lania!"

//no... you're allowed to do *that*. That wasn't really taking control of my character's actions, as I told you she slept heavy. And it saved time.//
"Huh?" she mumbled, batting the Jedi Master's hand away.
What in Kessel...
Everything came flooding back to her, suddenly. The lack of the Force, where she was, who she was... everything.
Shadow sat up groggily, shoving Elachi away, marks on his face clearly outlined by the sunlight that was shining down.
Then it hit her.
"Lania...?!" she stammered. "What in Kessel..." He knows. She reached up to her hood.
Off.
She swore creatively in Huttese, reaching up to cover her face with both hands-- now terrified beyond anything she'd ever known. He knows I'm a... was a Jedi... knows I turned... knows I didn't die... knows my name, new addenity... huttspawned fool that I am!
"Now what?" she muttered through her hands.

((Indeed. Glad you see from my perspective. *giggles for no apparent reason*))
He stared at her for a moment. The fear had been a visible entity within her eyes before she'd covered her face. A face that was irrevocably recognisable.
This has made the situation considerably more unstable, he thought. I've figuratively backed her into a corner without meaning to in the first place. I'll have to watch my every action and word to ensure she doesn't wind up on the defensive, or I could be done for.
To choose words that are neither harsh, because that will only increase her distrust of me, nor soft, because then she might think I'm trying to win her over with false sympathy. Which would not necessarily be the case.
"Now," he answered in a quiet tone, "we divert our attention from the past, and look ahead to the immediate future. The question of our survival is a little more pressing than knowledge of identity, for the moment." He paused. "Besides, you should know I am, in no way, an information broker. If you don't wish this knowledge to leave me, to anyone, I will keep it for my own.

//Always will. (knowing smile, finds that the giggling is contagious) This isn't funny...//
Shadow stood up, trying to control the emotions that wove across her face, but failing completely. She dropped her hands to her side, however, facing him to his face. "No Jedi," she said softly, "ever goes against the will of the Council-- if they knew I still lived..." The "sith" shook her head, visibly afraid. "I dread to think."
She held eye contact the best she could. "Addenity is no deal for you, Master Elachi-- you're not a fallen Jedi. Nevertheless-- you say for the moment, it is unimportant. After... we get off Myrkr, I suppose it will be a different story."
Pausing for a moment, she added, "Just because you know who I am does not mean I go against my word-- you still saved my life, and ou aren't holding a lightsaber to my throat for the moment. The truce still stands." I have no clue what he's thinking, or planning-- but I will trust him. Even if he knows.
I only hope he's worthy of that trust.
Shadow reached back, and pulled her hood back up, obscuring her features once again.

"The truce still holds," he acknowledged, moving his hands in a time-honoured Alderaanian gesture that told the viewer he held to his word.
"Besides which," he added, "I'm certain you could whip up a disguise." Then a fleeting smile passed across his face. "And you would not say such things about Jedi always obeying the Council's words if you had met one Master Jinn. Shall we be off?"

//point taken. correct?//
"A kath hound can't change its fur," Shadow shot back. "I could disguise myself, as a Jedi-- I couldn't hide trained Force-sensitivity even if I wanted to-- but does that change who I am, Master Elachi?"
But what I wonder is... who am I anyway? Lania-- Lathania? Or Shadow? Or someone else entirely? A small encounter had opened her mind to questions-- many of them.
She bowed her head faintly. "It's your turn, I suppose, to take the lead."
