They are strange and lame. They do not make much sense. They introduce Callista, one of the Skywalker's "many" girlfriends.

*hates* I KNEW IT! *smacks Callista* She's only a product of the Matrix anyway...what respectable Jedi is attracted to a computer?! HUH?!?! THE PLOT RUNS FOUL WITH THESE!!

Well.... Luke isn't exactly a "respectable" Jedi. And Callista isn't his first girlfriend...

I mean...*mimbles* He's respectable enough. And your love life would be kinda tragic and confused too if the first woman you ever really loved turned out to be your sister, eh?

Creditable point... But look what he's ended up with - a dead senator, his sister, a computer program, and an Imp assassin who was sworn to kill him.
Confused - definitely. Tragic - considerably. Pathetic - absolutely.

Well it's not my fault...it's blasted Timothy Zahn. I personally don't think the Plot runs with Mara. Mark Hamill said his character was destined to be alone, and this is the plan i go with. Not that she's gonna die or anything (but i will laugh) but that i should never have happened. But that doesn't make sense for what the lucasfilm people want to do either. Don't trust me on this. I am biased.

If he's destined to be alone, how come you're here?

Because of Mara. I stem from that plot even though it's fake. And I could always be said to be an AU.

My fave Star Wars novel is the novelization of episode 3. Mainly because, um, I don't know where to start otherwise. I want to get some of the Medstar novels, has anyone else read them?

I read the second one, and it was very good except that I hadn't read the first. Episode 3 was definatly one of the greatest. Where to start...depends. What era are you into?

The Medstar Duo is GREAT - 1st one's best. Great authors.
Whatever you do, DO NOT READ THE NJO SERIES FIRST THING!!!! YOu won't get alot of what's in them.
It all depends on what Era you're into. There are "duds" out there that are semi worth the effort, but those are thankfully few.

then MedStar is very good, or Rogue Planet if you want Obi and Anakin, or The Cestus Deception. all those you can get in paperback. Also, there's Shadow Hunter, which is pre-TPM.
MedStar: OCs working in a republic medical outpost along with Jedi Padawan Barris Offee Rogue Planet: Ani & Obi go to a living planet...dun dun DUN TCD: Kit Fisto and Obi go to a war-torn planet. Deals a lot with clones and their thoughts. Shadow Hunter: one of Darth Maul's first missions.

Are there any about what happened just before episode 3?

Yes:
The Cestus Deception : Also Entitled, Kit Fisto and Obi go butt whooping
Jedi Trial: Or, How Ani Earns His Rank
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous : Need I say more?
Labyrinth of Evil : The hunt for Darth Sidious.
These are in chronological order, with the last one closest to ROTS. Enjoy!
Love your avvie, Hobbit Eyes!

W00t! Dark Rendezvous is hilarious. Which...is the only one I've read thus far of the books listed just above. Gack. I'm falling behind.
The RotS novel...written by Stover, yessss. He also wrote my favourite NJO book: Traitor. The one that's actually really worth reading. Heh heh. But no, it's not a good idea to start with the NJO.
The AGONY!! (vapourises Callista)
...Wait. That's too good for her. She requires something more slow and agonising. Even Gaeriel was a sight better than Callista. And while we're at it, I'll crush Akanah for the umpteenth time.

Ahhh, Labyrinth of Evil is the one I was thinking of....
Is Traitor any good? Because I liked Matthew Stover's writing style.
