(ok this idea has been brewing in my mind for some time and I finally decided to put it on 'paper'. )
Melody sat in the room wishing she was there in the other world. Things always seemed to be better when she was there. Ok so there were wars and lagues and such but she had a husband and for the most part was supremely happy. Not so in this world. For Melody Carmicheal things had always been different. Ever since she was a little girl she had been absolutely sure that there was another world and that if she just tried hard enough she could visit it. Her whole life she had been ridiculed for this idea and even the few friends that she did have didn't believe her. When she was 16 she had gotten sick and had to be admitted to the hospital for a few days. But all the needles and medicines were worth it because she found the door. Every book she had ever read on the subconcious said that there was a door to other worlds. You just had to look hard enough to find yours. It was a magical mystical world of tiny people and tall ones. Most lived in harmony nad through the years of visiting the other world whenever she wanted to she came to fall in love with Tarlen. They had been married and from that point on Melody never dated again. Her friends and family called her strange-she didn't care. Then the enevitable happened. Her mother discovered her secret. Melody had left Earth during the night and had lost track of the time. Mrs. Carmicheal had gone to wake her daughter up and was surprised to see Melody "appear" before her eyes. When the 19-year-old had tried to explain she was met with disbelief and even worse accusatins of making it all up. "Fanciful story telling Darling." Her mother had chided her. "Once you meet a nice boy you'll soon get over this." But Melody had insisted and thats what had brought her here. Every so often her mother would come to her rom at night to make sure she was still there. And as time passed she began to be more and more worried as her daughter seemed to more frequently drop off the face of the earth. Finally the Carmicheals sought professional help. Melody, now 21, was placed in a mental institution.

(She always waited for dark. It was easier to find the door then when it was quiet and less people were behind the mirror watching her. Melody would lie on her bed and mentally walk through her mind until she reached what she termed 'the portal'. With a rush of color and light she would find herself in the other world-Laidos. And always she would be in the same spot. The main room of the home she shared with Tarlen. The tiles under her bare feet were cool and gentle. The colors decorating the stucco walls of the room were quiet and unassuming. Mostly earth colors in the tradition of the Kirn. Always for a few moments she would stand in the middle of the room drinking in the simplistic beauty of the room. Most often a pair of arms would wrap around her waist. "Welcome back, Kimanti." Tarlen's pet name for her was beautiful in sound as well as meaning. In the language of the Kirn it meant 'One Who is Beyond Replacing' and showed her how much she meant to him. In all honesty she preferred Laidos over Earth.
But that night it was different. There was no welcoming arms to greet her. The candles that were scattered around the room did not cast their usual warm glow. Something was terribly wrong.

(hehehe good because here's a tidbit more)
Gabe Smith sighed as he watched the girl disappear from the room in front of him. Unlike most of the other technicians he didn't immediately flip the lights on to bring her back. He didn't fully believe her but there was just something about Melody that didn't suggest insanity. When he had talked to her she was calm and explained it all to him with a quiet certainty. She was open to his questions and answered them to the best of her ability. Gabe had heard stories of magicians who could disappear for a short amount of time but he didn't peg Melody as one. And she wasn't a psychic either. If she was maybe she could tell him what he was supposed to be doing with his life. He leaned back in his chair and propped his feet on the desk between him and the two-way mirror on the wall. The only reason he was at The Waverly Institute for the Mentally Handicapped was because Uncle Chris was the director and had pitied his good-for-nothing nephew enough to give him a job. Gabe had failed at almost everything he had started. From his short stint in the military to his 6 months at college nothing seemed to suite him. He had 2 reasons for staying on at Waverly. The first was his uncle, if he lost this job Uncle Chris could make it very hard for him to ever get another one. And the second one was Melody. In the end he was just plain curious about her. After a few minutes Gabe succumbed to regulations and reluctantly turned the lights on in Melody's room. She was very sensitive to light and as always it was enough to bring her back to this world. As Melody materialized into the room Gabe could immediately tell that something wasn't right. Her shoulders were shaking and she was curled into a ball. Almost as if she was trying to protect herself from something.
All Melody could think as she lay on the cot was No. That single word ran through her head over and over again. A litany of disbelief. But she had seen it for herself. Seen the disarray in her beautiful home, the furniture ruined by Rimo blades, the bloo-but no she wouldn't believe it. For once in the 3 years she had been at Waverly she was almost thankful that they had pulled her back. Almost, because a small deep part of her didn't believe that she had seen what she had seen. A strong warm hand gripped her arm and pulled her to a sitting position. Melody felt the sting of the needle and the warmth of the medicine coursing through her veins. It would make her sleep and hopefully forget.

Chapter 1
It was everywhere. Red and sticky and everywhere. It covered the chair and the tiles and pooled around him. "No!" The word escaped her lips before she could stop it. The One wouldn't do this to her. He had always been kind to those who were faithful to Him. She and Tarlen had been.
Melody woke in a sweat. "If only it was a dream." She whispered. But she knew in her heart that it wasn't-that it had been real. "Hey, you ok?" The tech beside her was one of the more friendly ones. He acted like he cared though she wasn't entirely sure about his sincerity. "No I'm not. Tarlen is dead." Her breath caught in her throat as she said it out loud. Just saying the words made it real. "The Rimo killed him. Because he teaches of the One."
Gabe looked at the strange woman beside him. Her dark hair was matted and her face was streaked with tears-she didn't seem in a position to make this up. “Well, is there anything I can do?” It sounded so stupid and trivial out loud. Melody shook her head slightly. “No. How could you? You must think I'm crazy. But I'm not-I know what's out there.” Her shoulders sagged in defeat. “Just let me sleep. Just go, please. I want to be alone.”<br>
*ooc* glad you all enjoy it . . . hopefully I'll have more for you in a few days *ooc*

SWEET STORY!
Heres mine written in Art class... there were Pictures but... Just imagine them. Its my good copy..
The Adventures of SnakeLady
There was once a slithery snake named SnakeLady, The corrector of the Corroded Corneas of the Nearsighted Elves. Some though this snake was evil, but really the dark side only sometimes ran away with her scales.
SnakeLady had a dream, to rid the world of nearsightedness and eventually form a clan of the Not-So-Nearsighted Snakes. But someone stood in her way!
Someone: "I stand in your way SnakeLady"

It was the sometimes evil sometimes semi-evil Vanacoriel of the Woodland Realm and Hobbit fanatic!
SnakeLady: "Why do you stand in my way of ridding the world of nearsightedness Vanacoriel?"
Vanacoriel: "Nearsightedness is my home and a source of many conversations and fun games! If you took this away from me I would be stuck with Garlic in that section of the boards.."
SnakeLady reconsidered...
SnakeLady: "Hrmm.. Perhaps you are right..."
So SnakeLady accepted Nearsightedness with open arms... Until the next episode where she will take on the evil lint of death and destruction! Dun dun dun duhhh...

*ooc* Heres some more *ooc*
Chris Waverly sat at his mahogany desk the next morning reading reports. Nothing much had happened during the night except for one thing. That Carmicheal girl had disappeared again and had come back with some unusual symptoms. Hyperventilation, tears, shaking, extreme fatigue and irritability. "Hmm. What an interesting report." His fat forefinger pressed a button on his desk and almost immediately the door opened ushering in his nephew. "Well Gabe tell me about the girl. Did she say anything new last night?" The young man standing before him slouched against the wall in an attitude of practiced carelessness. "Not really. She said that Tarlen died and the the Romans or somebody killed him." Gabe ran his hand through his short dusty brown hair. "Look Uncle Chris I don't think she's crazy. Sure she says some odd things but so did Einstein. And yeah she disappears but Houdini could get out of impossible traps and nobody called him a madman." He stopped for a moment to collect his thoughts. "I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe we should run a few more test on her. The cross analysis test that wasn't around when she was admitted might show some different results. If she isn't suffering from delusional insanity doesn't she deserve a chance at a normal life?" Chris gave a watery half-smile. “All right Gabe. We'll run some tests on the girl.” His gut instinct told him that nothing new would be found but he also knew that things could change.
There's a difference between being in the dark because you choose it and being in imposed darkness. The small comfort of knowing you could turn the light on is denied you. The corners of the room become menacing and every little noise is a threat to your well-being. The darkness can overwhelm and suffocate you until you scream out against it. The dark becomes your enemy and you fight it every moment to draw breath. When light finally comes you are filled with a relief so great you cry. Melody knew these things and so many more. For her the dark never came at the same time or lasted an exact amount of time. Without these safeguards the dark became twice as frightening. It was at the very beginning of her stay at Waverly that they had discovered her sensitivity to light. It wasn't long before they began using it to bring her back from Laidos. That scared Melody too. The fact that they had enough control over he that they could remove her from the one place she was safe. That is until now.
A fire burned in her heart. The flames of anger and indignation leaped in her soul. Melody knew that if she didn't douse them quickly she could very well be caught up by the inferno. As for revenge she was practical enough to realize she couldn't do anything against the Rimo. They controlled Laidos, governing what could be said, eaten, worn, even what a being could do for a living. There were even restrictions on housing. Melody often compared them to Earths Nazis. The Rimo were especially hostile to those who believed in the doctrine of the One. The ones who were brave enough to be truthful about their faith were often met with immense persecution. Reports of death were heard every day. But Melody had never thought it would hit so close to home. Even with Tarlen being a teacher of the One the threats had been minimal in scale and number. There had been no hint of any real danger.

"Hey." Melody's dark head snapped up. A pair of deep green eyes locked with her light grey ones. "I wanted to talk with you. I'm Gabe." She looked him over carefully. Spiked brown hair, loose t-shirt and blue jeans. A typical guy. But his eyes begged for companionship. "I'm Melody. But then you already know that." A ghost of a smile flickered on her face. "What did you want to talk about?" She pushed her back against the wall and drew her knees up to her chest. Even if he wanted to be trusted she wasn't taking any chances.
Gabes face exploded into a grin. This girl was trying to protect herself from him. If anything he was more harmless than her. "Well for starters, who is Tarlen?" Melody's dusky lashes brushed her cheeks as she closed her eyes. For a moment she remained like that, silent and unwilling. Finally she opened her eyes. "Do you believe me?" The question was frank and demanded an answer. Gabe could feel those ash-colored eyes piercing his soul. "I don't know. I think theres more to your story than what they think."
"Do you think I'm insane?" Melody needed an answer. She wanted so much to tell him everything but she had to know if he could be trusted. "Do you?" The young man on the cot beside her sighed and rubbed his hand through his hair. "Again I'm not sure. You don't seem like the type, but the things you talk about . . . " His sentance trailed off as he flung his hands wide in a gesture of exasperation. "I wish I could know for sure." Melody's dark hair bounced aginst her shoulders as she nodded. I can show you.
Gabe looked at her in disbelief. "What do you mean you can show me? I don't understand." Melody smiled faintly. "You don't have to understand. Just trust me. Close your eyes and let go." She took his hand and relaxed into herself. The comforting rush of light and color greeted her and when she opened her eyes the familiar room greeted her. And standing beside Melody was Gabe-looking bewildered and a bit out of place.
Gabe looked down at his clothes. His usual attire of jeans and a t-shirt had been replaced with long pants and a loose fitting shirt of a soft green material. His glanced at Melody. Her clothes had changed too. A deep blue dress fitted her personality much better than the standard issue gown they gave everyone at the Institute. "Where are we?" She smiled and for the first time her grey eyes light up. "In my home. Laidos."

Gabe studied the tree in front of him. Its bark was rough and almost scaly in appearance. The leaves were a sharp contrast-shiny smooth and a brilliant blue that matched the sky perfectly. "Huh. Thats kinda cool." He was enjoying exploring the area around the small house. A tethered horse stood grazing peacefully, seemingly unaware of the stranger exmining his home. Suddenly his face was kissing the ground and a heavy weight was settled on his back. "Well, well what have we here?" A feminine voice with what sounded like a British accent came from above him. "A looter perhaps? Come to take advantage of the Teacher who died??" Gabe pushed the thing off his back and crawled to his knees. Slowly, with his hands raised to show he was defensless, he turned around. What he saw shocked him more than being shoved to the ground. The creature before him was unlike anything he had ever seen. She was about 3' 6 and although she was short Gabe wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley. In one hand she held a long sword and strapped to her hip he could see a dagger glinting in the bright sunlight. But what astonished him more than the weapons she handled with such effortlessness were her wings. On the girl, well whatever she was on her back were a set of large dark purple wings. They looked sturdy, as if they were made for flying and fighting. What Gabe could see of her skin was a shade of dusky purple. On her face were tattoos of wolves. "I am Ril, protector of the Teachers Tarlen and Kimanti." (to see a pic of Ril go here www.councilofelrond.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=R PG&file=index&action=viewcharacter&rpgid=3583 )

Out of selfdefense Gabe was backing away from the thing in front of him. "MELODY!!! HELP!!!" The rough bark of the tree scratched through his shirt as he looked for a place to escape from the dangerous thing. "Oh come now. If you have nothing to hide, why do you run??" Ril's sword danced back and forth in front of his stomach.
Melody ran out from the house to see Gabe shaking against a tree being threatened. "Ril Cintar! Mlko rint stry, oen." To Gabes surprise the creature backed away and sheathed her sword. "Melody what is that thing?"
"She's a fairie but more importantly she's my friend." Melody sighed in exasperation. "Ril, this is Gabe."
A few minutes later the three were sitting in Melody's home drinking hot tea. "Ril, who cleaned the house up? It looks wonderful." The smile on the Melody's mouth seemed to be painted on. Her face contorted and the tears she had been trying so hard to keep in came streaming down her cheeks. "I just can't believe he's gone." Melody's shoulders shook as her sobs grew in intensity. Ril wrapped one long arm around her friend and pulled her close. "Shh. I know it hurts. Remember the promises of the One. He will never leave you or forsake you. He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother." The words the faerie was speaking seemed strabgely familiar to Gabe but he realized the delicacy of the moment and remained silent.
