TIANA edit:
To save from reading all this thread:
Enough with the random linking. It's okay when it fits. You know, I linked my icon journal in the icons thread, for example. I could do this also in the signatures thread. No problem there. It's on topic. SPAM is not necessary. Admins are now instructed to edit posts with an unnecessary link. (hey, you can say "Please check out my site!", but enough with the links unless it's approprate! We have an ENTIRE BOARD dedicated to links! You can make more than one thread if you must. Use that board for your advertising needs. Do not abuse it or it will be removed.
I'm pretty much sick of it. Do we not have a thread dedicated to sharing links? Do we not allow links to personal websites in profiles? Do we not allow affiliate links? Do we not allow links in signature space? Do we not have journals in which to sing the praises of our own websites?
Then why-oh-why-oh-why-oh-why do we need spammy posts splashed with URLs all over ME:I?! It's tactless, and it makes me whiny. -_-'

There are? (blank look) There are some situations in which it is permitted to link your site. Otherwise, edit the post. I'm going to "announcement" this thread, all right? It's now a rule. (for confused members, this is fresh from the HIDDEN MOD BOARD. Bwhaaa) AHA!! Right in my rules already.

It's okay. It happens, just try to keep it to a minimum.

I don't know why people do it in the first place? Is it to get attention or what... Because really it's not giving them any. Not the people anyways. And who really is stupid enough to click a link that says ex 'Click ME! See what happens when you do!" People should have enough common sense not to... *sighs*

It doesn't mean that the people are getting spam, you realize. It just means that it's pointless and annoying to post your forum link everywhere you go. And if your site's going down hill, you get desperate, it never seems annoying at the time.

Annoying? VERY annoying. You know, I got most of my forum members by simply having a link in my signature with an exciting declarative statement of "the site for Jedi and Elves!" or something like that. The rest came from FF.net and I invited them to post their fanfiction... ...ironically, most of them never did.

I can't think of a catchy "phrase" thing for my Forum... I guess I haven't really put any time into thinking of one...
