Okay, here's something to debate... Does Jack Sparrow's compass point to the treasure island or to the Black Pearl? Don't have time to write more now... I'll post later.

I think it has to be Isla de Muerta it's pointing to. Because at the end, Jack looks at it when setting a course for the ship. He doesn't need to find the Black Pearl, he's already on it!! However, Isla de Muerta has lots of lovely unattended treasure, heeheehee... Rani, half half

...I don't see what the point of this is. Why would it point to his ship? But then, he loses it enough, he might need a tracker on the ship...
Maybe it has two lines on it, pointing to the island, and to the Pearl... heh.

Seriously! If you paid attention you would know that Jack's compas points to the Isla del Muerto where the cursed Aztec gold is!
BTW I stole Jack's compass...

Really the compass doesn't point anywhere. In Jack's mind it points to Isla de Muerta, but he already knows how to get there. "It's an island that can't be found, except by those who already know where it is."
Isla de Muerta is where the Black Pearl docks. It's where their treasure is kept, so if he goes to the island, he would most likely find the ship there. I believe this is said in the movie too. I'm pretty sure it is said by the bristish soldiers gaurding the intercepter. If you remember they talk about the whole legend of the black pearl.

Maybe it points to the thing that the holder wants the most.
Jack wanted the black pearl and he wanted the treasure... Just a suggestion.

I think Jack's simply delusional -- as Silver said. He just needed a focal point... like with most magic... *quits before she starts rambling*

ummm... they didn't really say it outright, but ISLE DUMB MORTAL. lol. I tend to agree. If we were not dumb mortals, we would not be arguing over this. It points to what the bearer desires most. If Jack desires rum, it points to rum. Or Tortuga. Or the Isle Dumb Mortal. Also... Captain Jack RETURNS 7 JULY !!
