What does MS-DOS mode on a computer mean? I put my old Compaq into that mode by mistake and got a screen full of prompts I didn't know what to do with. I put in some 'go to' things and they didn't do anything. Is it dangerous to mess around with?

I remember back when that was all our first computer really ran on... But alas, Dad did most of the running of MS-DOS. CR's gone for a bit, but I could try interrogating him when he gets back.

Oooh, my computer's a Compac. (coughs) Anyway. Mommy knows about MS-Dos. Our old PC ran on that, and she could navigate it. In fact, she knew how to do BASIC programming... rewrote a couple programs... it was interesting.

Ah! How useful! Though I do not know any Basic. My Compaq is so old...to its credit it hasn't died yet. I really need to get a laptop and move everything that is oh so important...the Compaq is too old to have a USB port compatible with what they make now, and that would be the easiest way to back up things.

Oooh... security check required to post as a guest now... cool. Get a second gmail account and email stuff to yourself. Really. I email important files to myself all the time, and gmail is very steady... I have a working USB. But yeah.
