Brieze had his Buster in the sling on his back, and the katana on his belt around his waist. He put on his street clothes and splashed some water on his face. It was the same way every day. Go to his job, ((he took photographs of the forests for the local papers)) get paid crap for his work, make a deposit, and buy some groceries, then fall asleep and do the same thing again.
But to day he would do something different. He would take some pictures of the Forgotten City today. Those pictures ought to rake in some good money.
Maybe, if I can get somereally good ones, I can visit the Seventh Heaven. Haven't been there in a while.
Seventh Heaven was a bar that was run by a woman named Tifa. She was a good person, and she rarely lost her temper. He liked that in her, but he felt she wasn't his type. She welcomed him in with a smile and his usual, but that was the most interaction they had. And by the way she kept eyeing the door, she had her heart set on someone else.
He wasn't the drinking sort, but he did enjoy some ice-cold juka juice. That always either cheered him up, or gave him memories he'd wanted to forget. He pushed his thoughts aside and walked out the door of his small apartment on the lowest level of Midgar. A good place for an Ex-SOLDIER to hide from prying eyes.
Brieze closed his eyes and concentrated. Soon sounds stopped, and he was able to move the way he preferred. With his SOLDIER legs. Here he could move faster than the wind, out run a bolt of lighning, anything. Here was the one place he could forget about his past. About Marene.
Now that he was thinking about foretting, he remembered. And the memory of how he failed his wife pained him. More than the bullet still lodged under the muscles in his shoulder. He shook the memories out of his head. He needed to go to work. His head must be clear. Brieze picked up his pace and left Midgar for the Forgotten City.

Brieze walkede out of the Midgar Dailies with a couple of extra creds then usual. His pics had sold well, except for the ones he took of the woman. He had to talk to Tifa.
Brieze took a quick stop at the local bank to deposit some creds, and pocketed some for the bar. When he arrived, the Seventh Heaven wasn't overly crowded, but there was enough people in there to cause more noise than he liked. He looked ouver to the Bar and saw Tifa polishing the countertop. She loked up when she heard the door open and shut in expectation, but he saw she was dissapointed.
Her Prince Charming hasn't made his grand entrance yet? He walked over to the counter and tok a seat. Tifa seemed surprised at his change in his usual seating, but didn't ask.
"Tifa, I have a question." He pulled out the 6 by 4 pic of the Woman he took in the Forgotten city. "Is she familiar?"
She took the photo, jaw dropped. "Where'd you take this?"
"In the Forgotten City, in a massive lake. What's craizer, I took this picture today. You see that strand of hair?" he pointed on the picture which one he was talking about. "I brushed it out of her mouth, and it was warm."
Tifa seemed dumbfound. "Her name is Aeris, and she's been dead for a year. How'd you get this?"
Brieze waved his hand, giving the room a slight chill. "Just parted the waters."
"She was a Creta. That might explain about her not decaying. Are you sure she was warm?"
"Yes." Brieze fellt akward with this conversation.
"Um, I also came here to ask you something else. When you lose someone, what do you do?"
"Who did you lose?"
Brieze pulled out the pic of Marene. "My wife, Marene. She died five years ago."
Tifa looked at the picture. "I'm sorry. Five years? How do you feel?"
"Awful. Probably because I caused her death, and I can never forgive myself."
"You caused her death? How?"
He proceded to tell her about how he met her and the wonderful year they known each other. He told her about the shootingin his car, and that he had pressed the gas right as the bullets were fired.
"So you see, I drove her into that bullet. And now my conciencse will never give me peace."
Tifa looked at him with tears in her eyes. "You weren't the one who pulled the trigger. You did not know. Why blame yourself?"
"I know that I did not fire that gun, but I did not save her either. I allowed a chain of events to occor that led to her death. In essence, I killed her as much as if I did pull that trigger."
The door opened again, bringing more customers. Tifa looked at him apologetically.
"Stay here, I'll be right back."
Like I'm going any where.

((In case you wewen't aware, Tifa is from a year before FF7AC))
Brieze cringed as Raptor walked through the door. Raptor was a customer of Brieze's favorite pastime, Swordmaking. He had made him a sword that he was especially proud of. A Katana made with some Trace elements of Materia, granting the user some "specail" abilaties if exposed to it for a prolonged time.
"This nerd Carring a Buster Sword is not in the mood for games."
Tifa walked back to the bar and went to the drink pumps.
"Can I get you anything," she asked brieze.
"Get the P.I.T.A. a screwdriver. I'm fine."
She handed Raptor the glass. "Only because he vouched for you." She turned back to Brieze.
"Anything I can do?"
Brieze chuckled. "Besides calming the storm of emotion within myself, not much."
The door opened again. Tifa looked up again, beaming. This time, she wasn't disappointed. A blond, bony man with a sling over his shoulder with a sword in it. Brieze recognized him at once as a SOLDIER.

Rayne stood outside Tifa's bar. 'I could use a drink.' She watched as a blond entered and decided to follow. She picked a seat furthest from anyone. 'I want to go home...' Home was Zanarkand, so far away. Worlds away. One night she fell asleep and awoke here, in this place known as Midgar. 'I would do anything just go home. I miss the sunsets, the fiends that I could kill just for fun... And mainly helping out in the hospital. Someone help me get home...' Rayne looked over to the other strangers. She didn't know them. But anything was better than being alone. Rayne tried to walk over but nervousness overwhelmed her so she stayed put.

Brieze saw the Blond walking closer to Tifa.
He's a SOLDIER. Wow. I thought I was the only Ex.
He let the two have their privacy and walked over to his usual table near the door. He sat down and saw a woman standing in the doorway. She was fairly attractive, but Brieze tried to avoid people, especailly females.
But this one was different. She had shoulderlenght silver hair with blue steaks. An interesting combination. As if compelled by some unknown force, Brieze stood and walked over to the door.
Be cool. Ask her why she looks troubled, offer her a drink and learn a bit about her.
"Um, uh... Hi. My name's Brieze and I ... "
Concentrate Idiot!
"Saw you looking lost... and, um... wanted to know if you, ah..."
Drink! Offer her a drink! Some Ex-SOLDIER I am.
"Wanted to, ah.. have a, um... Drink?"
You don't deserve to live you sniviling coward. Asking a female if she wants a drink and you trip over your self like a two-year-old in a minefield.

Rayne looked at the stranger. Either he was drunk or something was up. "Drink? Sure I guess. Thanks." Something troubled this guy. Something more powerful than her. 'Who cares about my problems... At least he's trying. Obvious enough though.' Rayne held in an inner laugh.

On the inside he was kicking himself.
She probably thinks you're a massive idiot. You are a massive idiot! At least she didn't turn you down flat.
Tifa backed out of the embrace she and Cloud were sharing.
"Customers," she said.
He nodded, his eyes saying more than he thought.
She came up to the counter, polishing rag in hand. She saw Brieze with girl with strange looking hair. This might help him with his past. Get him to open himself up a bit up about it.
"What'll it be?"
Brieze lokked up at her, she had a smirk in her eyes. Highly unusual, for someone like Tifa.
"Um, just a soda for me. I don't like the headache from overhangs."
He looked over to the woman.
"I didn't cach your name, but, what ywould you like to drink?"
Oh, real smooth you're a real hit with the ladies, aren't you. Ask her name with an order for drink you are so sad.
He inwardly hit himself again.

"Rayne. Rayne Skie." She looked towards Tifa. "Anything red. Doesn't matter to me." Rayne could sense that this guy, who ever he is was really trying to hard. She could even feel him beating himself up emotionally just by the look on his face. "Really you should calm down. There's no need to be nervous or anything."
As Tifa handed her the drink Rayne took a sip. "Very nice. I'll come back for more of these." She sat the glass down and looked at the stranger. Brieze was his name. "Something is troubling you. It pours from you. Would you like for me to help?"

Raptor laughed and said "I wouldent call it that black market but.....i have a contact there, a shady person goes by the name of....oh what was it? Sephroot, sephroat, septhorat? Ohh i cant rember his name." Cloud's face grew a pale white "Sephiroth?" cloud asked. "That's the one sephiroth. Is something wrong cloud?" Cloud looked at him sternly and said "Does he have waist length gray hair? With a long sowrd?" raptor said "I dont know i havent met him yet....but i could set up a meeting with him for myself." Cloud then said "If you find him call me. Whatever you do don't fight him."

Brieze lowered his soda. "It's not something easy for me to explain." He took a sip from his beverage. He was going to need its caffiene. "Now, this is all true. I'm not making this up. Seven years ago, I was cloned off of some cells of an alien called Jenova, as all SOLDIERs are in Shin-Ra, corp. My body was cloned into adulthood, I never experinced what you call childhood, puberty or a growth spurt. My mind has been filled with extensive combat techniques and knowledge, and my muscles have been altered to make the smaller, but stronger, making my opponent underestimate me. "A year after my creation, I was sent out on a mission to stop a renegade group of rebels from exposing some Shin-ra secrets. When I got there the rebels were nothing more than some common workers. They thought I was there to kill them, and I was shocked at who my government had sent me to stop. They begged me not to kill them. Begging, groveling sobbing. All but one. She looked me in the eye without fear. She asked me to kill her and let the others escape. "I was horrified. Absolutly horrified, that I was part of a group of souless murderers. I told them I knew a way out, and that I wasn't going to kill them. None of them believed me, except for Her. She looked at me with eyes that stared into my soul. She convinced the others that I was telling the truth, and they escaped. "When I went back to report, my superiors were enraged. They decided I was a defective clone, and needed to be removed. I escaped, but when I finnaly left the building, I had killed four SOLDIERs and seven guards. I fell unconcious in the streets, dying from mortal wounds. "When I woke up, I thought I had died, because I thought I saw an Angel. She was, of course, the woman I saved from the labs. She nursed me back to health, which turned out to be her profession. In the year we had spent together, in the underground, in a filthy hospital, I fell in love with her, and she with me. It seemed perfect. "We arranged the Marriage for the day I was able to walk. We were wed in a chapel on the outskirts of the city, and we drove off in a rental car. I was driving her to the main mako processing plant so she could feel the magic there, being so close to the planet's heart. Halfway there, another car sped by, and I heard two shots being fired. One hit me in the shoulder, and the other missed me. "I swerved off the road, and tried to see the lisence plate, but it was too far. I popped the clutch to give pursiut, but when I checked my rearview mirror, I saw red out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head, and saw blood was pouring out of Marene's chest. She died on the way to the Hospital." Brieze took another sip of his drink, soothing his dry throat. "She said it was the best day of her life. Her last day. I had pushed the gas right before those bullets were fired. If I had said something else to her, she'd be alive today." He showed her the picture that he never left without. "That was five years ago. I still feel the grief as if it was yesterday. I can't escape it, it's tormenting me, the fact that I could have saved her on that day, and I drove her to her death."

"I admire that you told me all of this. You have a choice to make here. You can put the past behind you, learn from the lessons that were whispered into your ear that day. There was nothing you could do. Her soul was sent into the Lifestream. The planet will decide when she returns. Or... you can continue your mourning. You're life of never ending sadness. I believe she wanted you to be happy correct? Are you going to let her down so easily?" Rayne took a sip of her drink. "No. She wants you to live your life to the fullest. Don't back down. You're holding yourself back from all the things that can help you." Rayne finished her drink. "My past... I barely remember anything before having showed up to this unknown world. I remember the sunsets... My home was Zanarkand. I don't think there is a Zanarkand here is there... All my family... well what's left of it and the few friends I ever had are gone. All I had with me were my weapons. I guess that means I was out exploring somewhere..." Rayne looked dead into Brieze's eyes. "Even though I have lost everything... I'm not letting it keep me back. I will enjoy my life to the fullest. Whatever life throws at me. I will take it and not let it bother me. That is what my family and friends wanted of me. They want me to be happy where ever or whenever I am."

The words she spoke to him gave him some comfort. Comfort he had not felt in a long time.
"I do believe in the LifeStream, but, I can feel her, calling me, talking to me. But she's just out of hearing range, and... I don't know. I can't just... forget about her. She was everything to me."
The burden on his heart was lifted a little. But he could still feel its wieght dragging him into the table.
"I--"
But when he was about to continue the door opened and he heard two voices he knew only too well.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't 'OverDose.'" Said a young man in a buisness suit with spiky read hair that ended in a long pony tail. His name was Reno, a member of the two-man team known as The Turks. The one behind him with purple sunglasses and a blad head, was known as Rude.
"You gave us quite a chase from your little escapade two years ago," Rude said standing behind Brieze.
Reno sat next to him on a stool. "You can make this easy on yourself. Just go peacefully, and we'll make sure you don't spend too long on the containment cells."
Brieze let out three breaths. "I'm. Not. Going."
Reno popped out a small pipe that was only 14 inches long. "We'll ask you one more time. Come back peac--"
Reno was thrown back by an invisible force and Rude was knocked over by a back kick from Brieze.
He shifted in his seat as his hair turned back from grey to black.
"Old friends," he said offering an explaination.
"I try to move on. I really try. But its as if..., I can't trust myself to get close to someone without my past hurting them. It's like... breaking your leg. You can walk away, but you don't want to run a marathon. Though, Ironically, that's what I do best."

Rayne looked at the two on the ground, giving them the 'don't even bother messing with me right now' look. "If you can't even try to trust someone, then there's no point for you to move on. Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose. But it makes all the difference in your life. Once you find trust you will be happy because through trust you know people care about you or even love you..." Rayne trailed off at that point. She was curious about the two who just popped out of nowhere. They dressed like Turks but Rayne didn't know for sure. "Hey, if these two are after you.... you can hang around me. They wont bother you. And if they do? You'll see me get extreamly pissed off and kill someone. Sounds tempting actually..." Rayne controled herself.

Brieze listened to her with undevoted attention. She made sense, and he drank it in like a man who walked in the desert for days.
"I haven't thought about it that way. I was once told that trust is earned through friendship. I have a friend, but I don't trust him any farther than I could throw him. He's an all right sort, but he's a little shifty. Something about him makes me wary."
Reno and rude started to groan and move.
"If you'd give me a hand, we could dump them in the Dumpster that is being taken to the ladfill in five minutes. That'd throw them off. After that, I'd like to see how good you are with a blade. Haven't had a challange for years."

Rayne looked down at her emtpy glass. "No fight. I don't fight just for the joy of it. As for them. Let them stay. They pose no threat here." Her eyes glanced down to Reno and Rude. "Or I can always talk to Rufus about this. See what he has to say about following me again. I don't think he wants to waste whatever he has left of his company for one single person." Rayne grinned. "Have you forgotten? Or have I changed that much?" Then she sighed. "The things I had to do to get you both off of my back... Stalkers. Heh."

"If you want to talk to Rufus, I highly doubt you'll get out alive. If I go with you, you'd have a better chance."

"Oh? Really now? I got out alive last time if I recall. There is no reason for me to see Rufus again. He has nothing that I want, and I have nothing he wants. Unless you two have failed to collect me again for him. I'm sorry to put you through so much, but i'm not going." With that Rayne stood up and walked out of the tavern. Not once did she look back. She went into an inn. "One room please. I'll be staying one night." To finish anything the keeper might say. Without a word she handed Rayne a key. Once she got to her room Rayne locked the door and laid down on the bed.
