Welcome baaaaaaaack, Mr. Anderson.
So. You've completed the first fanfiction contest, and made a horrible Mary-Sue. You've rinsed your mind out with soap. But now, we invite you to step back into the world of horrible fiction. Pull out your entry for the last contest and write a sequel! If you didn't bother entering the first Mary-Sue fic contest, look for your very worst fiction and write a sequel to it. Haven't even written a fanfic? Then write one now, darnit, and PRETEND it's a sequel!
So far, Jandalf is an automatically drafted judge. We require two more. Here are your rules, my pretty...
--Commander has volenteered.
1) It must contain a Mary-Sue. No, more, it must BE a Mary-Sue fiction. Take this as you will; read the entries to the first contest for inspiration—Hobbit-eyes' is an extremely exaggerated Sue, whereas Warious' and Forca's are both fairly decent Sue-type self insertations that feel like Sues without being sardonic about it.
2) It must be a crossover, whether in the most minimal references (Gandalf has a lightsaber), ("Vader is my father and Galadriel is my mother! *angst*"), or whether so extreme as to be Middle-earthian.
3) It should be completed. That means you can write "the end" on it, whether it be a horrible "it was all a dream" ending, or as ignominous as the ending to my entry to the last contest. This isn't a requirement, but it's nice. (length doesn't matter, and multiple entries are permitted, though preferably with aliases. Yes, judges may enter with an alias... XD. They just must be either very hard on their entry, or not judge it.)
But, wait... there's MORE... there's an actual requirement BESIDES "Mary-Sue" and "at least one crossover reference". That's right...
I want to see somehow, an original created SOMETHING come into this. Preferably a world. Rather than a full-blown fanfiction, I want to see a strong degree of an original fiction underneath the plot. The best example I can think of was when Jandalf and I were originally writing, and our plot started growing, our main characters were Jedi, with lightsabers still, there were references to Coruscant and scenes on Coruscant, Myrkr, and Yavin IV. But most of the story took place in a place that was original, completely unconnected to the Star Wars universe. This is the sort of feeling I want to see from this contest. Whether it be that half your story takes place on Terra, or that you use entirely original characters, or replace all the technology on Middle-earth with steampunk-type stuff... whether you have a rogue plot overthrow things...
Summarized? I want to see somehow something worked in that if you were to alter things a bit, it would no longer be a fanfiction.
If you were to remove hobbits and elves and dwarves and the place names, and change them, it would be an original fiction with a few too many LotR styled things to be right. You know. Like that. It can be in a canon universe, sure, just some sort of feeling of original vs canon.
Content rules, as usual...
1) Language beyond the MEI permitted hell and damn is NOT allowed, and the story will be disqualifited.
2) Sexual content... well, implications are one thing, going too far is another. Read the thread on keeping things PG 13 if you're uncertain. I don't mind descriptive kisses, but if your fiction would be classed as M, you make any references to censored bodyparts, or whatever... you know. Be nice and PG about romance... it's not that it's bad to go a bit further in detail, it's just that most of us don't want to read it...... (coughcough)
3) Violence? Knock yourselves out.
4) I don't like Harry Potter Therefore, as usual, I am being so horrible as to refuse to allow stories centered in that world. I'll be nicer. References (A la "Angel's Wings") are okay. Full blown stories related to HP are not. This is a LotR/Star Wars site, anyway. With PotC, Matrix, and Final Fantasy add-ins. XD.
There.
--Call out for one more judge.
--Ending date will be after I get back from camp... maybe a bit later, since Jandalf's a drafted judge and going to collage. Snrk. So... August 19th. It's a Saturday.
EXTENSION:
September. End of September. Possibly later. Oy.
--Entries must be emailed or PMed to Celebrian ( "admin" ), or ( jedi_mom5 AT yahoo DOT com... I think... I'll have to check on that one. Might've been .ca, someone want to look at the old thread? )
