I guess the title pretty much explains the question...
Just wondering who has pets. It is an inevitable question I post on almost all the message boards I darken with my presence. lol
Anyway, I have lots of animals here at my house. It mainly comes down to the question of who owns who, as I question whether or not I really own them...
Currently I have: 2 Horses (Sonny and Shanya) 2 Goats (Digit and Rascal) 2 Cats (Reba and Chloe) 1 annoyingly smart dog (Dalton) 1 House Sparrow (Lucky) 3 Fish (ummm...no names. Aren't they deprived?) 3 Pigeons (Mercury, Apollo, and Cyprus) 1 Messy Duck (Jack, who is a gender confused female) 1 Pig (Garth) Approx. 40 Chickens- Names that I remember: (Sparrow, Shadow, Margarita, Tequila, Andrew, Dizzy, Spud/Ricky, Lucy, Peaches, Montana, Ichabod, Rocky, Paprika, Sangria, Pheonix, Spritz, Iris, Syren, Spice, Sunflower, Andromeda, Comet, Eclipse, Nestle, Marshmellow, Salt, Pepper, Freebie, and I think those are all that have names. I need a ton more names so ideas are welcomed.)
So what do ya'll have?

A chicken named Shadow? Whoa, she'll love that... *not* Heh heh heh... member here named Shadow, that's all....
Name one Shade too. Snrk. Sorry, that was bad.
I'm going to move this to the approprate board, if you don't mind? (The Random Thread) This doesn't really go in general, which I sort of decided is for general chatter, and actually topics go in the Random Thread.

Heh. Well, before this topic is moved, I'll post anyway. I have two parakeets, Mojo and Kujo. More commonly known as "the boys". Heh. Except Mojo seems to be a little confused about that sometimes. I used to have a couple of goldfish named Ren and Stimpy, but...they're gone now. Heh. They weren't doing too good after a while, so we decided to give them a merciful and painless death. Fish are made so that their system slowly shuts down as they get colder. We put 'em outside in a pail of water, then took the block of ice out later. I had put the block of ice outside...and then the sun got all warm, and one day I discovered a trail of cat pawprints leading up to the ice and away again. No fish to be seen. Heeheehee...yup. A day in the life of Jandalf.

I read it!
Hehe, you think that is bad? You should read Enslaved by Ducks. OMG I was laughing so hard! Basically its about this guy who starts out with one rabbit and when that dies his wife wonders if they should get another pet. So they end up getting a parrot, but then the animals never seem to stop collecting. After awhile the guy has like 10 indoor birds, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, geese, and a few other things. lol. It's so funny the way he describes the animals too. He makes them almost like people.

Oops, must've double posted.
I always cry when pets die. It's just so sad. I've had to put down three animals too and I always made sure I was holding them as they died. Actually I held almost every dear animal as they took their last breaths. Watching animals die is incredibly sad, but I felt I need to be there with them. I would hate to die alone.
Watching my ferret and dog go were the hardest. When they put my ferret to sleep they had to try sticking him intravenously first but that didn't work so they went in right to the heart. That was horrible. When my dog went the last thing I saw were her eyes slowly closing and I remember seeing darkness. It's strange, but I get this connection I guess with animals.
Anyway, sorry for all the sadness. Just ranting again. lol
I guess if you include all the animals that have passed on in your count, I have also had 3 snakes 1 snapping turtle (Though he may still be alive, I had to get rid of him) 1 Hamster (Emily) 1 Gerboa (Gizmo) 1 Parakeet (Pretty Boy) some frogs Some fish 1 Grackle (Birdy) 1 Starling (Clipper) A few other Baby birds (Missy, Two-ie, etc) A pigeon and chickens (Selene, etc 1 Ferret (Dusty) 1 Golden Retriever (Amber) Some Hermit Crabs (Rum, etc)
Oh I miss all of them so much. But it's nice to remember all the good times I had with them.
Look forward to hearing everything else ya'll have!

Heh. I didn't post about my other two previous pets...
Jami was my 'tiel. About five inches high. She was fairly smart for a bird...although a little too adventurous for her own good. Snrk. She fell in the toilet twice because she tried to land on the rim...however, it proved to be a little too slippery. She fell into the (full-of-water-and-soap) washing machine THREE times...the first was by fluke. The second was because Mom accidentally swept her in when she put in a towel, and then she saw Jami's wing sticking out of the water. Much sneezing on the part of the bird. Heehee. The third time was my fault...she was leaning over and peering into the water (as if she hadn't learned her lesson already), and I decided to snap a picture of her. The flash startled her so badly, she jumped...and I'm sure you can't possibly guess where she landed. (rolls eyes) Heh heh. Crazy thing. She also had a close accident with almost getting her head crushed in a closing door, and fractured one of her legs as well. Poor thing died of a stuck egg when she was three years old, though. We decided we wouldn't get any more female birds for Jandalf after that. Heh.
And the first pet I ever had...was the cat. I was six, and it was my birthday. She was so cuuuute...until she grew up... Yes. She was a pet store kitten. Wild thing. We gave her away to a farm two years later, where she probably moused out the rest of her years.

hmm, 3 cats actually owned 1 by my mother and 2 by my stepmother, but i figure when i feed them that's as owning a cat as you can get, 1 little black dog who is insane, some really awesome big fish that i don't know what kind they are but they stick to the walls, 4 chickens and 1 turkey, my beloved Andromeda. that's it.

A pheasant? That's awesome!
Andromeda the turkey...I love it!
I'm considering getting some sort of gecko, perhaps. Or a kind of skink. But I'm not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions about that sort of thing? I'm looking for a relatively low-maintenance lizard, as I just don't have the time (nor a whole tree of money) to spend with one that needs extra care.

Skinks are pretty cool. They are easy to handle too, and stay relatively small. The annoying thing is they require live food.
I saw some at this reptile show. THey had these bins filled with them and you could just go and touch them and hold them. The skinks were my favorite. They were pretty personable too. They also didn't smell bad.
Geckos are pretty cool too, but they are faster and harder to hold. Anoles are super easy to care for, but you can't hold them, since they run too fast.
Dry land turtles also make excellent pets. Especially box turtles or small tortoises. They can have really great personalities and they will get to know you. You can build a little pen in your back yard for them too and they love to be outside in them. I had a snapper turtle for awhile and he was easy to take care of. We had to get rid of him though, since he required meat for food. Paint turtles are easy, but you really have to keep their cage clean and you can't touch them without constantly worrying about salmonella. They just eat veggies and turtle food though.
Last but not least, snakes are very cool pets. If you don't mind feeding mice, a small snake can make a great pet and believe it or not, they will develop a personality and they will learn to know you. Only reason I've stayed away from snakes is because of the live food factor. They only need a mouse like once every week, so it's not too bad if you live near a pet store.
Hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel welcomed to ask!

Sweet. Thanks for the tips. There's a pet store nearby that sells crickets and the like, so live food shouldn't be too much of a problem. One of my friends picks up her crickets there regularly for her bearded dragon. Those things are so cool. Heh.
Well, if skinks aren't stinky and the easiest to hold, I might go with that... I've got a fairly large glass aquarium at the moment. Would I have to put some sort of mesh overtop to prevent them from climbing out, or can they climb on glass at all?

Yay! skink!
I don't think skinks can climb like geckos can, but a top for the cage is always good. Animals are always very good at escaping whether they can climb or not. lol
You can also raise your own crickets too. I looked into that once and it looked like a good idea and fairly simple too. Maybe that is something to look into.
My problem with live food is that all the pet shops are a half hour away from here. My mom would kill me if I asked her to drive that far every week to pick up crickets! When I can drive myself I may look into getting a lizard. I've always wanted an iguana...

We've got skinks and lizards and garter snakes living in our back yard. Redrose wants to catch one for a pet. I say good luck, kid.
We've got a donkey named Fannie Brownbottom, a blind diabetic dog named Fiona Flea-flicker, two cats named Norf and Nero, and a miniature horse named Sprocket's Rocket. We used to have another one named Two Speed Diesel Thunder, but he kept escaping so we had to get rid of him. Red and I used to show them in horse competitions and drive mini horsecarts. It was fun.
We've also had a myriad of cats (People dump unwanted cats off at the bus turnaround on our road. I hate that.), loads of goldfish, the occasional frog, two rabbits (mine was pure evil.), a guinea pig, and several chickens. Sadly, none of them are with us today. *removes hat in respect for the dead.*
Heh! I used to have 'tiels when I was little, Jandalf. I named them all "Hobbis." I have no idea why.

I have the sweetest dog in the whole world!!! Heard that one before, eh? Well, it's true! He's huge and red and has bad breath. His name is Rebel. He has brown eyes. He is gorgeous and smart.
I also have had: two hamsters, two parrots, at least Beta fish, two guinea pigs, twenty-one crickets, three box turtles, a dog named Ollie, a rabbit (bubby), and at least thirty goldfish (not all at once). They are all now. Sniff. I'm going to go cry in the corner...

Boa constrictors make really awesome pets, but they need a ton of space. I saw the cutest one at this reptile show I went to. It would sit it's head on top of the board keeping it from going out and it would just watch you go by.
They are very smart too, and they actually have affection towards their owner. You wouldn't think they do, but I had a friend whose snake showed affection by giving small squeezes. He would actually get sad when you weren't holding him.
