I was saved when I was 8 years old. I don't remember much about it except that it was such a positive experience that I went back about 2 more different times to be saved. I believe what I believe because it works. God is real, too many things have happened in my life that prove it to me. I feel the Holy Spirit inside of me- there's simply no question in my mind that Christ is real, and the Bible is all true. No question.

ow this thread has exploded...great that so mnay Christians have come together here...i was asked the question of why i belive once when a friend of mine was arguing not believing. it was at christian camp, so many of the other kids we were with had different anwsers, but the one that came to my head immediatly was 'because i have to.' Without the support of God i don't think i could get through some of the stresses of this life. He is the reason i still have some sanity.

Yes. I agree. THere is no way I can afford to not believe. Without Jesus I would be lost. But often times that reason is not enough for others we need to develop a deeper response and a more convincing one. But it must be truthfull. I believe in Jesus not just because of what I know or was taught in Sunday school but also by looking at his creation. THere is an order to creation that cannot be proved by evolution or the big bang theory. Order is crated by a thinking and intelligent being. Therefore I belive.
Or to change Descartes: I Think therefore I believe.

I was saved when I was 6 or 7, I believe. It was amazing. I just broke down and cried, asking my mom to help me become a Christian.
Now I'm 14, and God still speaks to me sometimes in amazing ways. I don't have time to tell any of them, but I will soon.

Welcome dear sister in Christ. We shall enjoy knowing more of and from you.
I was a christian at age five but I did not really know what that meant till I was about 12.
hmmmmmm. I think we should have a testimony thread.

I was raised Christian, but my family, at least my dad's insn't all that serious about it and church was just boring to me. when we stopped going to church with dad i kindof forgot, but going to youth group and seeing the reality and connections of it brought me back.

I'm not a very devout Christian or anything, but I'm taking Philosophy of religion as a subject, so it's really interesting for me to come and see why you all are so deeply believing in God, as I have to study arguments for the existence of God. Like what you said, Darth Warious and Haldir, about creation, I've studied that in the design argument, and it makes sense, but then when you learn the criticisms of the argument, it just gets you into a confusion about what to think. You're all so lucky that you can be so sure. I'm currently agnostic until I can get my head sorted out...

Actually, I feel exactly the same way. There are so many different confusing things to sort out—as one of my friends at school said, for an example: "Why did God favour Israel over all the other nations in the Old Testament? I don't think just because a person was Egyptian should mean they'd go to hell..."
And I can see her point. There are many other little things, like the fact that the Bible says light was created before the sun and stars were put into place. But all these small confusions can compile and make a huge stumbling block if a Christian focuses on them. All I need to do to reaffirm to myself that God is perfectly loving and powerful is to spend time with Him. One way I like to do this is to put on some sort of CD with worship-oriented songs and just lie there, focusing on Him and nothing else. Not me, not my problems, and not even waiting for Him to show up. There's a difference between waiting and resting in Him.

It has to do with God's promise to Abraham. Israel descended from him, and God chose them to be His people (I would have to read more to give you His exact promise). Now, keep in mind that God's grace has nothing to do with what kind of person you are, but with what you believe. Take Egyptians for example. God did love them (because God loves everyone), but they didn't believe in Him (any of you who have studied ancient Egypt and know about their beliefs knows what I am talking about). Therefore, many did not go to heaven. Now, if there was an Egyptian who turned from his old religon and believed in God instead, then I am sure God would welcome the Egyptian into His kingdom.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. That whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life"
Yes Trin. I believe if an Egyptian did truly believe (even in the old testament) and was righteous, that God would have accepted him.
I like your idea Jandalf.

I believe what I believe because I can't rely on anything else...through circumstance I found that Jesus is pretty much the only thing I can rely on.

I believe what I believe because there's no other religion that dates all the way back to the beginning of the world, Christianity is the only one, that must mean that it's not made up. and there's lots of scientific evidence that shows that there is a God, and Jesus is Him.
