The Symbolism of Jar Jar Binks
Ah, yes. The infamous Jar Jar Binks. With his gangly gait, protruding eyes, and horrible grammar, he is imitated by kids everywhere, earning the disapproval of their parents. The ever popular Star Wars movie series hits a low point with this amphibious clown. Surely, there must be a reason George Lucas created Jar Jar.
Jar Jar is a naive, bumbling fool, incapable of being a productive member of his own society. He is mistakenly adopted into the human world, with drastic consequences. Somehow, he becomes a senator in the Galactic Republic. A universe dividing war ensues. Jar Jar overhears the Republic's leader (who, unbeknownst to Jar Jar, is bent on destroying the Republic) lamenting that if only the Senate would grant him more power, the war would be over. Jar Jar, thinking he is helping, bestows emergency power to the Republic's leader - which results in the total destruction of the Republic. His good intentions led to a tragic end for all. This is clearly a message: as good as you think your intentions are, think before you act. Jar Jar's entire existenceis to illustrate that point.
Many other meanings can be found by looking at his culture. With his fellow Gungans, Jar Jar slunk from the pools in the jungles of Naboo like the creature responsible for evolution. Although they are amphibious and have a sophisicated society, they choose to live under the water from whence they originated, as far away from the advanced human society as they possibly can be. Since the majority of scientists believe in the evolution theory, the Gungans might be representative of the scientific commmunity. By this, Lucas might be saying that scientists and their culture exist seperately from the rest of society. Although the Gungans build cities under water, they lack the capabilities of spaceflight that the human culture possesses. Judging from where the Gungans reside, what they are representative of, and their limited technology, Lucas could be stating that evolution theory is a only a small, isolated part of the whole scientific process and that it is limited.
By the end of the movie, the Gungans and the humans have put aside their differences to battle the threat to their mutual existence. Therefore, based on the previous conclusion, the humans would represent the creationist mode of thinking, the Gungans, evolution. By the actions of the characters in the movie, Lucas could be saying the two main conflicting ideas in science - evolution and creationism - can coexist, and hints to scientists that the two schools of thought should merge into one if they ever want to get anywhere with extreme scientific advancements.
So, Jar Jar does have a purpose other than prompting kids to mimic him and drive their parents insane. If those parents looked hard enough, Jar Jar and his culture would be a valuable teaching tool, rather than just a nuisance.

We were reading The Science of Star Wars. The author writes like that. It's a bit of an insult/parody on fans/critics who take everything faaar too seriously. But it was kinda fun.

OK. Here is a link. Even if you are NOT clicky prone, click it. It is worth your time... or rather, wasting it. No sound required. Just a screen, a mouse, and time to waste. [ftp]Right HERE www.jerrythefrogproductions.com/MovieTheatre.html[/ftp] ---------------- I had a horrible dream last night. As usual, it involved un PG things, and someone trying to take what's mine. This time, they were trying to make us move, steal the only safe home I've ever known. As usual, I woke up in a cold sweat. I can never argue with them, never fight hard enough to make them understand, never be strong enough to protect my family. I hate these dreams. And they've been coming more and more often lately. I've battled them away for years upon years. But they're returning. I know why, but there's nothing I can do about it. There's no one I can turn to either. The person I used to go to for solace is absent. I have to stand on my own against myself, my inner fears, and it's hard. So hard. I don't know if I'll be able to survive like I did before. It's becoming harder and harder. I know what I must do - I think. The question is, can I do it to save myself? Is there a reason to save myself? Who will care if I... don't make it? Will they mourn me? Regret this? Is there a reason I should die? ... or am I lying to myself like before? Becoming so despondent I can't see myself, the world, in a clear light like before? Why? Why God? Please, I beg you. Don't make me walk that path again. I went down it once, but I can't a second time. Yes, face my fears, I know i should, but it's so hard. Who will get hurt this time? Please, let it be just me. Don't take away the light you've given me, it's the only thing that I can hold onto. Just make it done with.

Don't the angels sing Anymore for you, little girl? Have you forgotten that the sun rises For you, just like anyone else? When you find yourself in the dark Please don't close your eyes. A light is shining though you can't see; A sun is rising, while you cling to night. Open your heart, and the dawn will warm you. You weren't born in darkness, child. It was a bright dawn, then, And I could hear the angels singing. And I could feel the sun that warmed you. And I could see that a light possessed you. It still does, little girl. Look up, And see that your sun still rises.
Huggles to you, Commander...and remember Who's got your back.

Thanks Joan. You're really nice. I've just been having a really bad life the last few months, and I've been thinking I don't want to go thru with it any longer, that it'll never be any good... And then something nice always happens.
Thanks.

As in addition to above:
I've been worried sick about one of my friends.
Another I have broken off with because we don't get along period.
I've had a lousy time with school work.
I've been bored out of my mind.
So I got despondent and depressed, which has been growing worse, but has finally stopped.
Doesn't mean the dreams have, but I've just got to fight my mind and its surpressed mentality.
Meanwhile, everyone who reads this thinks I'm psycho. Not that I blame them...
That's about as much as I can say without going into extravagant detail.
My life.

Promised lyrics! Hallelujah by Jeff Buckely
i heard there was a secret chord that david played and it pleased the lord but you don't really care for music, do you well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth the minor fall and the major lift the baffled king composing hallelujahs
hallelujah...
[CRD: I edited the second verse out - I'm not sure it's approrpiate...]
hallelujah...
baby i've been here before i've seen this room and i've walked this floor i used to live alone before i knew you i've seen your flag on the marble arch but love is not a victory march it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...
well there was a time when you let me know what's really going on below but now you never show that to me do you but remember when i moved in you and the holy dove was moving too and every breath we drew was hallelujah
hallelujah...
well, maybe there's a god above but all i've ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you it's not a cry that you hear at night it's not somebody who's seen the light it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...
If you've seen Shrek, you would recognize the tune... *sigh* Love that song. ---- I found out all I really needed during these last few months was a chance to get out of the house, a real discussion with someone, and a big, warm hug. That hug seriously came from the oddest place, the last place I'd ever expect.
I was dreaming. Soemthing about hiding from somethings in an abandoned, Sleepy Hollow type town setting. The usual cast members weren't there, replaced by shrunken heads from HP 3 (love them heads!) and Legolas. Why Legolas? No idea. And it wasn't Orlando-Legolas, either.
So we're hiding, and finally, the angst and the stress get to me. I sink to the ground and start crying.
Leggy looks at me. "Are you intending to give us away?" I glare. "No! I just can't take it anymore!! It's eating me up!!" Bewildered Leggy sits next to me. " You seemed fine moments ago." "Well, I'm not!" I shout, crying harder. "I'm *hic* not." Leggy looks out, looks at me, looks back out, looks at me again, then reaches out and gives me a big hug. I sob into his shoulder and hair for a bit, just needing to get it all out ... including boogers. "Better?" He asks. "Yes. Thank you." The head shrunken head says "Heya, nuff wit de cuddlin, bad guys a comin. " I start looking around for a place to hide . the result - a lone porto-potty that appeared from nowhere. In my experience, these things have always been smelly, a major deterrent. I point, and Leggy, the shrunken heads, a suddenly appeared CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow and I go hide in the very smelly, cramped thing. I fade awake. And felt much better.

Fix You by Coldplay
When you try your best but you don't succeed When you get what you want but not what you need When you feel so tired but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone but it goes to waste could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones And I will try to fix you
High up above or down below when you're too in love to let it go If you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face When you lose something you cannot replace Tears stream down your face and I
Tears stream down your face I promise you I will learn from my mistakes Tears stream down your face and I
Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you

You Have a Melancholic TemperamentIntrospective and reflective, you think about everything and anything. You are a soft-hearted daydreamer. You long for your ideal life. You love silence and solitude. Everyday life is usually too chaotic for you. Given enough time alone, it's easy for you to find inner peace. You tend to be spiritual, having found your own meaning of life. Wise and patient, you can help people through difficult times. At your worst, you brood and sulk. Your negative thoughts can trap you. You are reserved and withdrawn. This makes it hard to connect to others. You tend to over think small things, making decisions difficult. .... My Immortal Evanescence
i'm so tired of being here suppressed by all of my childish fears and if you have to leave i wish that you would just leave because your presence still lingers here and it won't leave me alone
these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me
you used to captivate me by your resonating light but now i'm bound by the life you left behind your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me
i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone and though you're still with me i've been alone all along For mine.

Strawberry Wine by Pat Benatar
How am I supposed to make it thru another day? What am I supposed to do now that you've gone away? Is there anything encouraging you can say to me?
Didja really think my heart was made of stone? Maybe you never gave it any thought at all How nice to go thru life oblivious and free
Life is sweet Sweet as strawberry wine And bitter too Like the seeds from the vine You are there You are more than sublime And bitter too Lovin you Has been an experience
How am I supposed to ever feel the same? These kinda situations always have a way Of screwin up your mind and messing with your sanity.
How many days and nights will have to come and go Before I'll realize what I already know? I'm better off without you like I thought I'd be
Life is sweet Sweet as strawberry wine And bitter too Like the seeds from the vine You are there You are more than sublime And bitter too Lovin you Has been an experience
Oh... Yeah
Life is sweet.
Life is sweet Sweet as strawberry wine And bitter too Like the seeds from the vine You are there You are more than sublime And bitter too Lovin you Has been an experience
Life is sweet Sweet as strawberry wine And bitter too Like the seeds from the vine You are there You are more than sublime And bitter too Lovin you Has been an experience
Life is sweet Sweet as strawberry wine And bitter too Like the seeds from the vine You are there You are more than sublime And bitter too Lovin you Has been an experience
Lovin you Has been an experience Oh... Yeah.
I did it. I hope you're happy, God. I hope he's happy. I hope.... I hate reality.
