Startled as he was by the sudden voice that interrupted his silent (albeit immensely confusing) thought pattern, it took Chevrast a moment to come up with answering words that weren't explitives. We've really got to work on your language, mate. Your daughter's going to start understanding words, soon, and it won't do to have her sounding like a drunken dock-hand, all the time.
He gave the man a startled look, attempting to gain a little bit of composure -- luckily, the fellow looked a little the worse-for-wear himself, and didn't seem to notice. "Problem?" Huh. That's an odd question. "Everyone's got problems." Very astute observation, mate. Is the sky blue today? Maybe you should comment on that, as well.

"Well, it'sh, you don't look so good." The guy's leg looked banged up. "How'd that happen?" Maybe he had gotten into a fight too. Kaden's face was starting to swell where the force-using punk had hit him. It didn't bother him so much now, he had gotten into plenty of fights. Some he had been just forced into. Quickly, he pushed those memories out of his head. It wasn't a time he wanted to remember.

The first thing that popped into Kaida's mind was her other parental unit. "What about my mother? Is she alive too?" It didn't seem possible, that she could be that lucky, to discover she had two parents. None of the other orphans she had known had this happen to them.

((GAH!!! EXPLOSION!@!! *cough* Dûn no longer has a head. Again, first half Chev, second Edan.))
"Ah. I crashed my ship." Which wasn't totally true -- the ship had practically crashed him. Chev noticed the man's slightly swollen jaw, and decided to continue the conversation. "What about you?"

Way to start with a hard one. Edan glanced down at his hands and decided to take the blunt way out.
"No... it was after Sienna.... your mother... died that they took you away from me." That seemed like a safe enough answer. The look she had given him as she asked hadn't been one of expectancy... she just seemed to be covering all of the bases.

"They took me away." It wasn't right, spliting up families, though she had seen it often enough. People needed families. "What was she like?" Maybe she had been like me, Kaida thought. Maybe she liked windy days, and the color green. Maybe. I wish I could have known you! She thought sadly, her eyes starting to tear.

Edan decided immediately to half-ignore the first comment and tackle her question, even though it was a painful subject. "She was beautiful." A dream-like image floated up from his subconscious -- a hall of doors, a scream, and glassy eyes. He forced a smile, when all he wanted to do was scream, himself. "She had hair like yours, and the same eyes. She had a beautiful voice, your mother." I loved her.

Kaida unconsciously tucked her hair behind her ear."Did she sing?" One of the things she liked to do most was sing. It was second nature to her. A gaping hole in her heart started aching, a place where her mother should have been. She had felt it before, when Naya died, and she had smoothed it over and tried to forget. Now, talking about her real mother, it made it stand out more than it had before.

"Yeah."
He let himself smile, really smile, for the first time. "Yeah, she did. All the time. You could always tell when she was coming, because she was always singing."

Kaida gave a little hiccuping breath as emotion rushed through her. It was alot for a little girl to handle, and Kaida was doing her best not to cry, though seeing her dad smile made her feel happy. For a long time she didn't speak, and when she did, it was soft and hard to hear. "I- I don't want to leave you. I want to stay." For the first time in her life, Kaida wanted to belong somewhere. She didn't want the next day to hold unexpected surprises, she wanted to wake up and know her father would be there. No more just moving on her own at the spur of the moment. She wanted it more than anything.

Kaden shrugged, the memory was hazy. "Some punk punshed me in a cantina. Well, I slashed him, and he ran off, sho I decided to come back to my ship." It seemed prefectly logical he explain the entire thing, so he continued. "He pushed the Jedi lady into the wall though, sho he wash maybe a Shith punk."

((Chev, then Edan.))
Damn. How many Force Users are there in Coronet? Maybe that's the weird feeling that I've been trying to catch all night. Someone's been using the Force. "Wow. Eventful day." He twirled the crutch in front of him. "Was the lady all right?"
Might as well check. This guy's pretty much hammered....

Commitment. Are you ready for it, Edan? You screwed it up last time.
The voice in the back of his head was all too familiar, and it took a whole lot of self control to keep himself from talking back to it. Edan realized at this point that he really had no idea what he was doing, what he was supposed to say in such situations. Before Antaios, Sienna had always been the calm, emotional one. He had never really had to talk much. And Antaios was the person who tended to push people into walls and off of roofs, so there wasn't much help from that department.
Completely uncomfortable with the situation and not sure where to put himself or what to do once he was there, he reached out and took his daughter's hand. "It's.... all right." Like crap it is. "I'm not leaving."
And he realized that he meant every word.

This time, Kaida couldn't stop the tears. She squeezed Edan's hand hard, and couldn't speak. It was lame, she knew, but she was overcome with emotion. She struggled to say something.
"I've- it's- been- a while since... there's been anyone." She had loved Naya, Naya had filled the mother role for a long time. Now she had a father. By this time she had recovered her breath enough to speak normally.
"I'm happy." Kaida was completely filled with a sort of bittersweet joy. The knowledge of the loss of her mother, the realization that she could start over with her father, that they could be a family. At the edge of the happiness, fear lingered, whispering that it wouldn't turn out all right, that when things got tough, Kaida would run away, like she always did.
I won't, she thought fiercely. He's not going to leave, so I won't either.

Kaden paused while he tried to remember. Then it came to him and he nodded.
"She looked fine." He waved his hand in a self-assured manner "I kinda shlipped out, not really wantin' to shee if he'd come back." He clapped his hands on his knees.
"Well, I should probably go to my ship. It'sh late." He peered up at the sky. "Or ish it early?" His mind wandered back to the question of why in the world he was about at this time of night/day/whatever. His brows crunched together in confusion.
"Wash there a cat?"

Cat? Chevrast blinked at his benchmate a couple of times, and then shook his head. But the guy has a ship. Are there any laws agains drunk piloting?
"Uh... early. Early morning." He pointed towards the horizon, over the buildings that housed the ships in the port. "The sun's just rising." It felt strange to him to be the guy who actually had a clue what was going on. That hardly ever happened. Felt weird, too. A cat...
"So... you're a pilot, yes?" Albeit a rather drunk, and probably deranged one... "Do you, uh, carry passengers?" As far gone as the guy apparently was, Chev wasn't about to let an opportunity slip by. He was exhausted, his leg hurt, and he didn't want to wander the port once the morning had fully arrived. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

The voice in the back of his mind was whispering enragingly in his ear, but Edan brushed it off. Go back to wherever you came from, he thought. Out of my head.
"Yeah..." was all he could think to say. "Good."
She needs a home, continued the voice on its trail of semi-complicated psycho-jabber. Can you give her that? It laughed. He laughed. Do you even remember where you live?
For a shocking moment, Edan had absolutely no idea. When he abruptly remembered, a relieved sigh escaped his lips. Nice try. Now get out. He took a sip of whatever it was that he ordered (which was no longer hot. Had it ever been hot?), and smiled a small smile.

Kaden waved a hand vaguely. "Shometimes." It took a couple of moments filled with an awkward silence for a glow rod to go off in Kaden's head.
"You, need a ride?" Somewhere in the back of his alcohol-drenched brain, something asked, What about the cat? He shook his head. Cats weren't important, a job with a potential pay-off was.

((I'm going to post, even though it's been like half a year, and I probably won't get a reply. I neeed to wriiiiiiite..... Chevrast.))
"Yeah, actually." He turned to look at the guy in the rapidly growing light, and groaned inwardly. You really manage to find the winners, don't you. Chevrast wasn't sure how many drinks the guy had had, but they seemed to be taking a while to work their way out of his system. It seemed to Chev that he could watch the man's thought progression by the expressions on his face, and that never seemed to bode well.
He readjusted himself on the bench, stretching his right leg out in front of him and laying the crutch across his knee, then scratched his nose. "Just off-planet, really," he continued, vaguely. "Wherever you can drop me that isn't Corellia is fine..."
The bandage around his leg was beginning to itch, and Chevrast was beginning to wonder if ditching the hospital had really been a good idea, anyway. He could feel the skin beneath it stiffening, and knew from previous injuries that that wasn't the best that could happen.
"What kind of ship do you have, if you don't mind my asking?"
