You all know the rules... no flaming, keep it light-hearted, remember we're all here to have fun.
Which do you think is better. Discuss, explain, expand, whatnot.
For members aware of the previous thread, it was not deleted, merely archived for the impending threat of flaming. You can copy your old posts from there if they weren't related to the flaming issue and carry on the same discussion, if you'd like. Or just start anew. It's up to you guys.

Just finished the last That weird kid with the glasses... what's his name? Peeves: Potty Wee Rotter. book and I have to say I really did not like it. There were way too many dead ends in the book that were never properly explained and the book seemed really drawn out. I was very upset with the Dumbledore character. Why was he acting so stupid? I doubt that will be explained in the next book either.
I don't even know if I want to read the next book. I know I will, but I've definitely seen a decline in the quality of JK's writing. The first few That weird kid with the glasses... what's his name? Peeves: Potty Wee Rotter. books were definitely the best.
As for LOTR, those books are so long and there are sooo many names. The first book took me over a year to read (In between other books) and I'm still not done with it. There were so many names in the book and so many things to remember. Not to mention I think watching the movie somewhat ruined the effect of the book. I love the over all story of LOTR, don't get me wrong, but the books were a bit confusing.
I think all in all I've read better IMO.

I like LoTR better than That weird kid with the glasses... what's his name? Peeves: Potty Wee Rotter.. You are right Silver, JK Rowling has a few too many dead ends and a lot could have been explained further. Myabe she was leaving it up to our imagination.. I don't know.. Hopefully she will do better on the next book..

I guess I was just expecting more to come out of the half blood prince thing. He never even went to retrieve the book! (OK, I better stop now before I give too much away!) It was pretty much just like, "I'm the half blood prince so it's all over now". Blah! A few too many dead ends and a few too many dead people I'm afraid...
I think it's mainly that now she is writing to face her publisher's dead line, not to write a good book. I can see the same thing with Stephen King novels. Now he just spits out books and it doesn't matter whether or not they're good.

Yes, that is true. I see now your point. I think she just doesn't care anymore and is leaving details out. I don't know. Maybe she feels rushed because, she does have a life and when she hits that deadline for the book she has to have it done. I don't know.

Myself, I found that, though HP had a very good plot, it circled too much around lawless behavior and was rather... offensive to a few of my morals by some implications. The plot is impressive, at least for what I've seen of it (I've only seen the one movie in entirety, mind you), and had she removed some things, it could rank up a lot higher on my list of appreciation. I enjoyed the plot, nevertheless, just that there were things that bothered me.
As for LotR... I found the characters to be very believable, but there were unexplained ends left behind in it. It was as if Tolkien was building into a sequel, but never finished it. I greatly enjoyed the books, but they were a very hard read for someone who prefers skim/speed reading. I read fast. It wasn't so good of a thing to do in LotR. I ended up completely missing that Frodo put the ring on at Weathertop... and the Watcher in the Water... heh... (rolls eyes)
LotR ranks higher, but only because it's a more believable plotline. It has a real grit into the story, and the characters are very well shaped. And, of course, I don't know much about HP to begin with, bar the one movie... (grins) So I can't speak.

*mutters* Now I have to go back and find all of my paragraphs and paragraphs long posts from the other thread and post them... Blast.
In short, I am a Tolkien purist. Therefore, the Lord of the Rings (and all else written by Tolkien, subtracting Roverandom), shall forever take the fore in my loves. I like That weird kid with the glasses... what's his name? Peeves: Potty Wee Rotter., but I have reasons that I'm not as fond of it as LotR, which I shall state in further posts, once I find my other ones...

Bah. It's tomorrow night and I have schoooooooolll...... and my parents think I'm sick ((which I suppose I am, but that's got nothing to do with anything..)) so I shouldn't be out late. I only have one friend who isn't going, but that's because her parents have decided HP is the devil on steroids. «snrk» It's like Return of the King all over again....

It's not as good as the book. and Ron got a little... unkind, shall we say, in it. I pity him. he didn't get very good genes. the rest of the Weasley's are cool lookin'.

I have friends who hated it, and friends who really liked it, so I'm not sure if I'll wait to see it or not. I might go with my friend who can get me in free.
