The rules for fanfiction and general fiction are as follows.
The boards for all three will be merged as of now. I suggest to all authors that you go to your stories and edit the first post to have either (ff) or (of) in your title, ff for fanfiction and of for original fiction. And (poem) for the obvious, of course. If your title is short enough add in (LotR) (SW) (Matrix) (PotC) (X-over) (AU) (RR) or any of that if you would like. X-over is shorthand for crossover, AU for alternate universe, otherwise meaning it doesn't fit into canon. RR means roundrobin-- please put that in if you want to have an RR fanfic.
Round Robins means someone posts the first bit, then someone else, then someone else, then so on, so forth. A good example would be to look through the general board and find the LotR opera thread.
Now.
General rules for stories of any catagories:
Rated "R" or "NC-17" stories are not allowed. PG-13 is discourgaged as well. Basically, to keep your story within those guidelines...
A) No swearwords worse than damn or hell are allowed to be used. God's name in vain, the s-word, the f-word, so on so forth are worthy of a warning, and if used twice, a tempa-ban. If used after being warned after that... well... Jandalf fell in love with the ban button after using it once. We encourage you to find more creative cursewords than Terran variants, though, such as orcspawn, sithspit, and stang. And suchnot. Do not attempt to go around the censors, they are set for a reason. If this occurs, you will find yourself the object of serious ban button thrills.
B) Drug references aren't permitted, please. Medications are one thing, basic idea of someone smoking... even that's okay. But no people going high on drugs. Your fiction will be deleted.
C) Action and violence is generally okay on MEI, however. We do have members who are barely 13 even if they're not active, and some of us older member have weak stomachs as it is. And I have had younger siblings read over my shoulder once or twice... and I'm sure other people can admit to the shoulder-sindrome. So violence should be kept to the following.
1) Torture scenes should be no longer than two paragraphs and should not occur more than three times within a fiction. Nor should they be very graphic. Merely illuding to torture is fine...
2) Blood is okay, but when it gets to the point of someone crawling around in crimson liquid inadmist long discriptions, it's getting out of hand.
3) Removing appendages is fine, but when a person's walking around with their gut hanging out, it's not.
4) Shooting people is fine in FICTION (don't you dare try any of this at home) but cutting them into tiny shreds is not.
5) Making a character scream is fine too.
So, basically, if it wouldn't appear in LotR or PotC because it's too violent, it's too violent for MEI.
And the other biggy for rating... sexual content. *makes a face* Joy.
So, your romance content.
According to the PB TOS we're not allowed to have sexual junk anyway, luckily. So here follow the PG 13 guildelines.
A) Kissing is fine. Discribing a character kissing another is okay too, even if you HAVE to make them tongue. *gags* Having a character kissing a character of the same gender in a romantic sense is not. Slash is not allowed, and will cause for your story to be decimated. Slash is having two characters of the same gender involved. You can't do that. So there.
B) Hand holding, hugging, whatever... is good.
C) Tossing a character into bed with another and writing a discriptive post that's nearly worse than health and science in school is not. You may toss them into that sort of situation if need be, but then do a nice ... and jump ahead.
For more detail on what is allowed for violence and sexual content with examples, see this link to the Jedi Council forums fanfiction FAQs. *clicky* Ignore the rest of it, but the stuff for violence and sex-scenes is the furthest I'd like it left. I don't mind a bit heavier violence, but that's it.
Now that that's done with.
You may also not post oneliners, anything that you didn't write, or actor drools. *which means you spent the story drooling* You also may not use an actor or real person that lives at this time as a main character. You may have vauge comments pertraining to them, but they cannot be characters. Because that's an invasion of privacy...
SPELL CHECK YOUR POSTS! www.spellcheck.net. There, an online checker if you don't have any word processors on your computer. It is also recomanded that you get a beta reader to check over your chapters if you intend on going anywhere with a story. They can be had, and if there are people wanting betas, we can probably start a topic for that...
Anyway. Thus followed the fanfiction and fiction rules. I hope they made sense...
As for reviews, anyone wishing to review can post in the story thread. I think it's less complex that way, rather than the previous attempt to have seperate boards. You can move your reviews onto your story thread for authors posting before this date by copying and pasting.
(And yes I know I have spelling errors. )
