I love it! It's a complete different tone to LOTR, but it can be a good thing. It's nice to have a light-hearted adventure to show how nice Middle-earth could be.
I just got the graphic novel of it ;D It's in a sealed plastic bag... makes it feel special.

Heehee. They are hard reading. And I, the skim reader, missed two important facts when reading it my first time. I missed Frodo putting on the ring at Weathertop, and I missed the watcher in the water.
(hopes everyone reading this has watched the movie, otherwise those were sort of spoilers)
The Hobbit is a great book. We own (coughs) four copies of it. One's mine, one's the families, one's mom's special edition one, complete with postcards and extra cool stuff, some CD, and stuff, and then the graphic version. Heehee. So fun...
We also own two copies of the LotR. Mom and I needed seperate ones...

I kept on getting stuck on TTT. Mainly because I read it before the film came out, so when I reached the King of the Golden Hall, I got bored by everyone fussing about whether they were going to leave their weapons outside and skimmed through it, thinking that it wasn't an important chapter.
Three chapters later, I realized that the king was still around. Dammit.
I also thought that Helm's Deep was just a big mound of grass or something... I'm not good with visualization.

Heh...I first read through the trilogy a couple of years before the movies came out, and I originally envisioned Legolas being as tall as Gimli before I got my mental images straight. (grins) But my picture of Aragorn was pretty darn close to Mortenson...that made me happy. Yesss...the trilogy is one excellent wad of literature. And in my opinion, all LotR fans must read the books to call themselves fans. And then the Hobbit. And then (containing much essential information) the Silmarillion. Yessssssss...

I, er, haven't quite got through the Silmarillion. But I'm going to, with the help of my trusty LOTR encyclopedia!

If one isn't used to reading through that style of writing, it can be quite the trudging, I've heard. But...oh, the beauty! The mythology! And the story of Beren and Lúthien brought tears to my eyes...I'm such a sap... (grins)

Yeah, it takes them a while to get things started, what with Melkor insisting on getting underfoot and screwing things up, I guess...heh.

That was fine... I just couldn't understand WHO he was screwing up

(cackles) Pretty much everyone, I guess. Especially Manwë, as logic would have it...but then again, Melkie's a dark lord. Nothing really has to make sense.

Heh... don't feel bad... really... I read the books before the movies, and the first time through FotR, I completely missed the Watcher in the Water and that (odd face) Frodo put on the Ring at Weathertop. I didn't become aware of those until I watched FotR... And I didn't even try visualizing most of the stuff, because I skim-read the books... oh, I missed SO much. The AGONY... And in The Hobbit, I thought the elves in Mirkwood were related to the Goblins because I had completely forgotten about Rivendell... (odd face again) And if you guys continue discussing Silmarillion and LotR, take it to a new thread. If you were also including talk about the Hobbit in your posts, it would be okay, but you're all being bad examples (ei: JANDALF, my dead admin-companion) by going completely off topic without even a distant thought on The Hobbit. And now that that's done, I want all the information about the Necromancer that everyone knows. If I can't get help on MEI, I'll go to BD, but I'm hoping some help can come from here... I know it was Sauron, I think, but yes... I want to know if much else is known about that situation that made Gandalf leave the Hobbit's party... (plotting a fanfic, mind me not)

I didn't know any schools still had reading as a subject for anything beyond grades... oh, when did I quit "reading" as an official subject... grade fiveish. Huh. Believe me, I would've had a grade A in spelling had I not been homeschooled. Though I'm not sure how in Kessel they'd grade reading.

The Necromancer was Sauron before he returned to Mordor. I think the situation was that Gandalf got word from the White Council that they were finally going to fight him.
