I'd recommend reading the Hobbit, the Council of Elrond chapter, and the Appendices. They're pretty much the only sources of info you're going to find.
And yes, one of the dwarven rings was lost. When Gandalf was prisoner there before the Hobbit, he met Thorin's father, Thrain, who had been captured while trying to get to the Lonely Mountain, and the last ring was taken from him.
I think.

Probably, unless there's something in one of the HoME books. I suppose that's what I have to do... (sigh) And make up the rest on my own time... wheee... story stuff!

The only fanfic I'm writing now is Fandom Wars... which is on here... but no-one is reading... *accusing looks*

The Hobbit twas a good book. Not as good as LotR, but still very good. Especially Smaug.

He was good. Very different from most dragons - in That weird kid with the glasses... what's his name? Peeves: Potty Wee Rotter., they're just all RAAAAARGH!, and in Eragon they're all "Hmmm, let's help mankind and be smartasses."

The hobbit was a good story, but I fell in love with Lord of the Rings. J. R. R. Tolkien is one of my favorite writers.

I saw Lord of the Rings the movie before I ever read it. I couldn't put it down once I got through the first few charpters.

I still found it kinda tricky at first. I got lost about halfway through Book 3, I hadn't paid much attention in 'The King of the Golden Hall' and it suddenly dawned on me that the king they'd gone to see was STILL THERE...

LOL!! I know what you mean. There are some chapters that are so boring you can barely keep awake, but you can't skip them or you lose track of the characters or events in the story line.

That's the trickiest thing about reading LOTR, I think....

I read the books first. But it really didn't help much... snrk... oh, how much I missed. (in pain) I'm working on rereading them PROPERLY. Missed that Frodo put the bloody ring on at Weathertop until Gandalf mentioned it in Rivendell, went back, and couldn't find it... watched movie, he did...
Argh.

That's one of the reasons PJ is a jeenyus - he managed to read LOTR and actually fully understand what was going on, and then simplify it and put it on screen to help us read it.

I cannot get over how witty and original your screen name is. I am literally rolling on the floor laughing.
