If you like british humor and insanity of the british like monty python, then Terry Pratchet is the author for you!! He's much more low key than Monty Python but is insanely funny. Piers Anthony is good Fantasy reading, too.

Cynthia Voigt wrote the Tillerman Cycle, among others... very good books. AND I LOVE "THE SEA OF TROLLS"!!! *dances like a crazy person* That book was SO cool... read it in two days...
Has anyone ever read "Milkweed" by Jerry Spinelli? It's not sci-fi, but it IS one of the best historical fiction books I have ever read. Fairly new, too - just came out last year, far as I know.
And Hilary McKay... anybody heard of her? If not, definitely go read "Saffy's Angel"! The Cassons would do very well at MEI, me thinks. Randomness, snrk.

Whoa. I haven't been here in awhile. Cynthia Voigt wrote a ton of MRF books - VERY good. The best in the Tillerman Cycle is... all of them ! The Runner is one I'd reccommend, A Solitary Blue and Dicey's Song as well.
Whoop! People like what I like!! Mostly... I've read first 3 Enders, never heard of Plob, but it sounds good - look into it, definitely.
Just read book called Bear Daughter by Judith Berman - really good, esp. for action, mind games, mythology and magic.
Also, Riddle MAster set by Patricia McKillip. Similar to LOtR but awesomer... In the writing style - you can actually READ it!!!

Inkheart is pretty good, though i hear now there's a trilogy too it and have to find them. It's preteen metafiction, mostly...pretty good writing.

I believe anything previously mentioned is good, or else it would not be recommended. I believe it depends on your tastes.

I love this Trilogy by Francine Rivers, Mark of the Lion. They are set in ancient Roman times and are REALLY good. The three books are called: "A Voice in the Wind", "A Call in the Dark", and "As Sure as the Dawn". They are SO GOOD.

Terry Pratchett utterly rocks, if you like weird humor...
And, Force, GO READ OTHERLAND! Wow. I've read books one and two (finally listened to you, Dun)... and... wow... THE BLOODY LIGHTER! He mentioned the bloody lighter again. (bashes head against a brick wall)
Snrk. OFFICIAL ADMIN RECOMANDATION. Wow. Intensive books. Must buy...
What else have I read of late... Prince of Ill-Luck was a good book. So was The Unhandsome Prince.

The next Shadowmarch book is called Shadowplay. AND IT'S COMING OUT SOON!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!
Heh. My mom's finally reading Otherland, and she mutters the same stuff you shout about. So funny... heh. At least, I think it's funny, because now I get it...
I just read The Stranger, by Albert Camus. Weird guy, and really hard to follow. Camus is messed up... bleah.

Try reading Les Miserables - unabridged.
Or The Hitchhiker's guide set - literally NO PLOT LINE. Reads like some of the fan fics on here. Douglas Adams was the founder of insane plots...

...I think the Matrix stole a lot from Otherland.
IT'S FINALLY TYING TOGETHER! (wants to stay up all night to finish book three) Heh. Mmm. Greece. For some weird reason I have a desperate want to see a whole lot of the characters fall in love at the end. For some odd reason, my head hurts. I want to buy those stupid books... whee...
I'll put out a random recommandation. A Series of Unfortunate Events. Why? I don't know. I've only read one book anyway. Heehee. And if you like grammar-amusement, read "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" Because that book is blasted amusing.
